In a transfer window where it seems as though we managed to source some very credible loan spells across the Football League and SPFL, even National League loans for 18 and 19 year olds feel worthy of keeping an eye on.
I thought a ‘Loan Watch’ thread could be a good idea to monitor their progress, particularly if, like me, anyone else is sad enough to check how they’re doing via results/opposition fans forums.
I’ve actually been checking each week and put together a bit of a summary on each player, with my thoughts largely dictated by reviews from fans forums. So feel free to take on board, discard or contribute to it as you see fit!
Kieran Morgan (20) | LG1 Barnsley
Yet to play. Pivotal season for him, and reading the Bradford forums, they’re pinning a lot of hope on him given the reputation he’s arrived with. Really hoping this is the making of him and we see him consistently impose himself on matches
Joe Walsh (24) | LG1 Wigan
Really hoped a fresh start could breed a new life into Walsh, but it seems to be much of the same issues from last season. Wigan also signed a new goalkeeper on deadline day, so it doesn’t exactly look like the ideal start for him
Ziyad Larkeche (23) | LG1 Barnsley
Hopefully he has a successful return from injury. A return to Barnsley on loan gives him a familiar setting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was made permanent if he has a decent season
Daniel Bennie (20) | SPFL Dundee Utd
Mixed reviews to date. Had a lovely cameo against Rangers in the opening game of the season, but since then it’s been a tough start to the season for Dundee and Bennie has been in and out of the team
Promisingly though, he started in the recent 4-0 win against a very poor Kilmarnock side and seems to have put in a strong performance. Potentially the start of some momentum for him
Phil Sanyaolu (19) | LG2 Bristol Rovers
A great first loan spell for Big Phil. So far, just a 20-minute cameo in the cup to his name and he has since been an unused substitute in both of Bristol Rovers’ wins, on Saturday and then last night
Seems to have the physical profile to do well at that level, but it’ll be interesting to see if he can translate some decent pre-season form into performances in LG 2
Jaylan Pearman (21) | LG2 Swindon Town
Again, a good opportunity for Pearman, who has seemingly outgrown the Dev Squad
An odd start, perhaps not unsurprisingly in a Holloway side. Thrown on for 15 minutes having turned up to the stadium as a stranger the day after signing, then hooked at half-time after Holloway admitted to playing him out of position and he struggled. 10 minutes off the bench in the next game and then entirely dropped from the squad suggests he hasn’t exactly got off to a flyer
Interesting season for Pearman as, given his age (I was surprised to see he was actually older than his Aussie compatriot), it feels like it could be make or break for his time with us given the stated Nourry age policy for Dev Squad players
Side note: a read of the Swindon forum suggests the fans are very much fed up with the legendary Holloway. Seems some of his antics have worn thin, as we know all too well!
Cory Adjetey-Brew (18) | NL Worthing
Probably the one I’m most impressed with from some desk research. I can’t confess to watching any footage, but he’s played close to 90 minutes in every league game for Worthing, including a MoM performance in a win against Wealdstone
Currently with a team expected to compete at the wrong end of the table, but if his form continues it could be nice if we try for a top-end NL side or LG2 in January
Jaiden Putman (19) | NL Woking
Shocked to see Putman was still only 19. NL loan this season and so far just has a handful of appearances off the bench |  | | |  |
