I understand they're looking for someone with a glittering career and a cabinet full of trophies at the highest level. Steve Eyre must be expecting the call at any minute.

The backlash has started. Like when we've lost players, the whispering campaign against Mancini has already started with insiders and those in the know suddenly being critical of his management style. At least we know the reason for the 48 hr delay - it was to provide time enough to leak to the media all the supposed issues that Mancini faced.

I don't see any logic to the timing of this at all. City have (again) secured a European place for next season. There are only 2 games left in this season, both of which, (to City) are pretty meaningless. The sacking is (spitefully) announced on the anniversary of them winning the title for the first time since 1967 and on the eve of a match day. If it's a ploy to unsettle the squad and staff, it might work !!

It also effectively denies the fans (yes, remember them - the paying public ?) the opportunity to say a farewell to the most successful manager in their recent history. Never finished out of the top 3, an FA Cup win and a League title all in 3 years. The stuff most other clubs can only dream of.

His rumoured successor - Pellegrini - has absolutely NO experience of the English game, he is 59 years old and whilst he has a 'reasonable' record in Europe with so-called 'unfashionable' teams, he is hardly looking like a candidate who can better what Mancini has already achieved.

So the rumour is (according to that great £80,000 a week success Danny Mills) that Mancini was a hard taskmaster and the players 'weren't keen on him'. Tough. He's not there to win popularity contests, he's there to win trophies, which he did. He has every right to expect players to work hard and perform to the best of their ability.

City would be better off with Rafa Benitez. At least he knows the English game and the route to European finals. Chelsea fans might despise him, but he's done a good job there despite internal efforts to undermine him. Another European final under his belt with a disaffected, squabbling squad and hostile internal politics. He might be just the man for the job.

Surely nobody really feels sorry for Roberto.
In his time at City he has won the Premiership and taken the team to a Cup Final.
And now these foreign moneybags have decided to sack him.
With a CV like Mancini has and allegedly 4 of Europe's top clubs head-hunting him together with what should be a generous severance package being just one year into a 5 year £7.5M package.Maybe the foreign moneybags didn't read the label properly "Your investment may diminish and you might not get all your money back". it's the foreign moneybags who we should feel sorry for. Although, perhaps not. If a sufficient number of them get their fingers burned it might be noticed by other foreign moneybags who might then stay away from British football clubs and let fit and proper people run the clubs with sensible wage bills and reasonable admission prices". Then we might get football back on an even keel again. That cannot come soon enough. The only really honest supporters are those who come to watch lower league football where you can always get a seat and the bars are not overflowing. Up the Dale!

"sensible wage bills and reasonable admission prices"

I'm sure City fans would take that over their Premier League title and FA Cup

Tangled up in blue.

Rumoured tonight that Mancini has received a paltry £28.5 million 'severance package'.

How on earth he will manage is anyone's guess.

Yes and they are charging 51 quid to go to the nothing game against Norwich on Sunday! Its not the arabs who are paying the severance, its the fans.

Seen this on Twitter. Nice touch by Mancini, but I don't get this current idea of counting the Charity Shield as a genuine trophy.

Rafa is ideal in my eyes for man city..
Rafa knows the premiership and he certainly knows his way around the european circus..
Infact i dont think chelsea would have won the cup without him in charge.....
The chelsea hot seat was a poisoned chalace from day one and rafa knew that......
Also rafa is a far better manager than mancini will ever be.....

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

I agree with all that.

The thing that prevented him from winning the PL with Liverpool was the Fergie mind games. Now they're out the question, will he have more of a chance?

He has more money to spend than he did at Liverpool too.

I'd give Rafa a chance at City.
