| Wing -backs being exposed 10:11 - Aug 19 with 936 views | Myke | On another thread, a discussion going on about our CB's going forward with the ball and that can be an effective attacking tool if used properly. But with wing-backs bombing down the wings, the primary role of our three CB's MUST be to defend and to react when the ball is knocked over our WB's for the winger to run onto. Moses' sending off last night was stupid as he had already being booked and should have known better. But it was also unnecessary as Boro had nobody in an attacking position and all three of our CB's were in situ. Unless Jones could control the ball and beat a couple of defenders (and Seny) there was no imminent danger. The problem was the lack of communication between Dickie and Moses and the lack of movement by Dickie. A long ball over the wing back will always cause him problems as he ends up facing his own goal, but should never be an issue for the CB who is facing the ball. The second that ball left the Boro player's boot, Dickie should be moving across and shouting at Moses ''Leave it, I got this'. Even if it means putting it into the proverbial row z. Jones is far quicker than Dickie, but with the ball bouncing towards Dickie and away from Jones and if Dickie anticipates it in time, he should be well able to clear his lines. Just to be sure, Jordi should be moving across from the centre to cover Dickie's position to get a challenge in if needed and Barbet moving to the centre. More work needs to be done on this area on the training ground, because at the moment high balls into both channels behind our wing backs are causing us more trouble than they should be. | | | | |
| Wing -backs being exposed on 10:27 - Aug 19 with 885 views | CiderwithRsie | As others have identified, the space in front of and behind the wing backs is a weak point.Partly that's a worry, partly it's the price we pay for our system and we have to live with it. Odubajo is our only regular starter who wasn't in the side last season, (that's one reason I'm optimistic, our team and system is last year's plays a tweak or two, it's like Warbs has been working to this point for two years) I'm not surprised that communication between him and Dickie is not as good as we'd like. The good thing is that you'd expect that to improve with time, we can get better relatively easily. | | | |
| Wing -backs being exposed on 11:55 - Aug 19 with 726 views | simmo | It's the nature of the system, especially when attacking / pressing high, etc. Our defence is good and we score every game. You can't have it all. | |
