Looking for somewhere different.

I have. Can’t recommend enough.

Something for everyone.

Stayed near Samara (Pacific Coast) after driving from San Jose overnight.

By luck, I was there during the Football League Play Off Semi final and watched the heavy favourites (Saprissa) knocked out at home. Sat next to the away fans and they were mental so recommend trying to get some football in.

If you like wildlife you can’t move for iguanas which seem to be as common as pigeons over here.

Yes it’s brilliant did a tour covered the Caribbean coast the pacific coast the rain forest and mountains fantastic country but very much about the wildlife crocs iguanas monkeys sloth and many exotic birds. The people very friendly food good but quite expensive on the pacific coast where the yanks head for. If you go visit the rain forest and mountains fantastic zip wires through the tree canapés.

Went in 2019 family holiday.

Started with 5 days in Tortuguero, river trips, forest tours, Go Ape, etc

Moved on to Arenal, just below the volcano - brilliant rain forest tour with rope bridges through the forest

Next to Monteverde with the cloud forest - great night tour and horse back tour

Next to the south Pacific coast with a chalet on the beach for 3 nights - amazing beach and sea

Finally last night in San Jose - markets and town great

All arranged with imagine travel who create a personalised itinerary for you.

Not cheap, but a fantastic trip. I'll try and find the itinerary with a bit more detail, thoroughly recommend going

Costa Rica has a large expat American population, mainly retirees who in the last decade have been joined by a steady number of Europeans also attracted to spending their retirement in a relatively inexpensive, warm, sunny climate. I had a business interest down there with an American, Italian and a German guy and my take was a great place in the tourist / retirement centred areas, friendly people, decent healthcare, etc etc. Though I noticed the more populated cities / towns were becoming slightly edgy, though this is just in comparison to the relaxed nature of twenty years ago.

Highly recommend. My wife lived there when she was a child and I've been there many times, most recent trip was last thanksgiving with our kids in tow. It's great - tourist friendly and safe but still has the authenticity of a developing lat am country. The wildlife and geography are probably the best in the world.

Hit me up if you want any suggestions.

I’ve been to worse places. There in October 2019.
Was backstage at the Foo Fighters gig.
Saw the biggest game, Deportivo Saprissa v Alajeuense(Sic) 2-5
(See new book back cover)
Took a trip up a dormant volcano where you can see, on a clear day,
both the Pacific and Caribbean Seas.
Very safe, friendly but

South America is much better……

Not for me.

I was once in the Walkabout before a game and I went to the loo, and when I came back some bastard iguana had nicked my pint and was trying to chat up my girlfriend. The sods get everywhere.

Don't mind an axolotl, they're usually a good laugh.

Beautiful country. Fantastic culture -- very outdoors, jungle, beach, natural beauty.

Go to Arenal volcano and go zip lining. The ziplines come out of the treetops across the valley, looking down on the beautiful rainforest and deep blue lake. If you can stay ant Tabacon, it is gorgeous. If you can't stay there, spend the day there. The pools and hot springs are gorgeous.

Also, go to Manuel Antonio National Park. The rain forest comes right down to the beautiful beautiful beach. The monkeys are so funny. Try the coconuts on the beach. The soft pulp is amazing.

Pro-Tip: The roads are terrible. You do not want to be caught on a windy unpaved mountain road in a rainstorm in a wimpy car. If you rent a car (which you probably will have to), make sure it is four wheel drive and has a strong engine -- V6 at least, V8 if you can.

Everywhere you go will offer the same kind of outdoor fun: ziplines, horse rides, canyonning... Its all great fun, around some of the most beautiful nature you will ever see -- rain forests, volcanos, and beaches. They call it the Pure Life or Pura Vida in Spanish. Its sort-of their slogan and a way of life.
