| Fitness / Injury Culpability 11:51 - Jul 27 with 7833 views | Lblock | Many would argue, and I'd agree, the first port of call for player fitness is with the player themselves. This is especially this time of the year when some players may return out of shape - even then I'd say "club culture" contributes as to what is acceptable etc. However, when, if ever, are the club going to accept that the whole sports science regime; combined with player preparation, recovery and indeed squad identification; sits squarely with Nourry and his bezzie mate Williams? I find it hugely frustrating that the club continues to ignore the statement "You're best ability is availability" Impact injuries have to be expected and accepted - part of the game and a big one at our level. Having players like Kolli and Obikwu turning up unfit and not being able to travel to vital pre-season training campes (for the former) is a nonsense. Losing players in pre-season games for muscle and non contact injuries is also mental and smacks of a lack of conditioning and preparation. Then they try to go all North Korea with the punters and tell us clear hamstring injuries like Burrell's last season are "contact injuries". Farce. Whispers are we could lose two of our more pivotal players long term before a ball is kicked in anger. It was already going to be a really tough season and this could make it all the tougher. I really hope Kone and Madsen are fine - everything crossed. But that aside.... zero confidence we'll have a squad with adequate, fit and robust alternatives for any outfield injury this season. | |

Could it be that it is a continuing problem from the end of last season? If so, that should have been picked up by our medical team & treated, rather than giving him full pre season training. I thought Madsen injured himself due to contact while giving away a free kick, but I appear to be in a minority with this view.

Madsen jumped and then landed on one leg in an awkward way. Looked like he jarred his knee. You can’t prepare for those injuries.

| Fitness / Injury Culpability on 12:31 - Jul 27 with 5302 views | KensalT | In Kolli's defence he was training with the Algeria World Cup squad up until the squads were finalised on 1st June. I'm just guessing but for that reason he might have been allowed to start preseason later than the rest of our squad. | | | |
| Fitness / Injury Culpability on 12:43 - Jul 27 with 5224 views | Padulas_Shampoo | It's not even August yet and this problem is already rearing its head. Right we don't know about the fitness of Saito, Madsen, Kone, Kolli, Obikwu and Smith. That's in addition to Lamptey and Dembele who we do know a bit about. I think there are two problems here... 1 - That list is far too long for this point in pre-season. If their bodies are failing now God knows how they're going to hold up against a 48 / 50 game season. 2 - The abyss of information. We know nothing about the first five players on that list. Maybe they were rested, maybe it was precautionary, maybe their legs resemble Lieutenant Dan's. We know nothing about that scale. Sorry for sounding like a stuck record but if the club just solved problem number 2 - which is entirely an election - this sort of just negativity / scepticism / anxiousness wouldn't exist amongst the fanbase. Many people have been saying this for a LONG time. They completely bring this upon themselves. It's ridiculous. | | | |

not having that, if he was given extra time off from pre-season because of the World Cup the club would have broadcast this for sure, its good news! Remember when we had players at AFCON? The club were all across this with updates etc. Remember In this information starved climate no news is bad news. I don't know anything to stir, but I'd say that Rayan knows why he didn't travel for pre-season or get on the pitch for the last match, massive shame if it doesn't work out for him at QPR, as he has some talent to be realised on the pitch

I got a bang on my big toe playing football last night - immediate sharp pain, honestly thought it was possibly broken. Took some ibuprofen, stuck some arnica on it. This morning seems fine. The human body works in mysterious ways.

| Fitness / Injury Culpability on 13:30 - Jul 27 with 4880 views | Northernr | There's going to be a huge amount of scrutiny on this element of the club this season, as a thread like this appearing as early as July 27 shows, and rightly so. However much the club try and gaslight you all with this "90% availability" and "midtable for injuries" stuff, anybody who's paid even passing interest in QPR for the last two years knows both campaigns were ruined by injuries. Cifuentes called out the performance department and it led to his demise here (fck all to do with West Brom) and although Stephan has been more diplomatic even he said at the end of last season "I don't know what the group is capable of yet, because I never get to see them as a whole group". For that to happen once can be unlucky, twice a coincidence, three times and there's some serious questions to answer. Five first teamers injured (Kone, Madsen, Obikwu, Dembele, Lamptey) by July 27 isn't a great start but two of those are handovers and Kone seems to be training today so let's see how it plays out. If it goes wrong again there'll be no hiding behind these empty statistics. They'd never say it externally of course but the expectation within the club this year is very much for a top eight finish and play-offs and there's big focus there this summer on all departments "getting Premier League ready". So they've got to get it right this year. | | | |

one hundred percent, this club will bring in a head of rehabilitation and prevention before Nourry removes Ben Williams from his position. They would rather hire a scapegoat than fix a problem they don't even admit to having CN is a true spin doctor and would be looking for a win anywhere I was surprised to see the players mentioning top 8 finish in some of their pre season pieces, so the internal targets are out there in the public domain now, just like Warburtons last season ;p

It would have been good news if he had been selected for the tournament because the club would have made money out of it. Just like we did at the last WC with Chair and Dieng (and just like half the clubs in the Championship did this time around). I'm sure we would have heard plenty about it then! Kolli getting selected for the Algeria pre-tournament squad is a mandatory FIFA call up so he does have a legitimate reason to be starting preseason late. If our club has chosen not to acknowledge the reason why Kolli is behind the rest of the squad in terms of fitness and preparation then I'm sure they have their reasons for that.

A third of the teams in the Championship will either get promoted or be in the playoffs come the end of the season. No one is going to come out at this stage of the game and say "Nah, that's not for us!" Even Lincoln are probably hoping they can channel the spirit of Graeme Taylor and do an Ipswich or Sunderland. As for three strikes and your out. You're a more patient man than I am. Serious and honest questions should have been asked and answered well before now. We don't have enough depth of talent or experience in the squad to achieve anything with the level of injuries we've been carrying over the last two seasons.

Love these injury threads. Just shows how difficult it is for the physios this thread ckaims Madsens injury varies from a head injury folliwing a clash of heads, a damaged ankle folliwing a one legged landing and an imoact injury follwing a tackle. If all these are right poor man could be out for months !

| Fitness / Injury Culpability on 15:39 - Jul 27 with 4355 views | dmm | An observation I've made on this season's preseason training. Last season, players returned on 1st July. First game of season 9th Aug. That makes 40 days incl non training/playing days. This season, players returned on 25th June. First game of season 8th Aug. That makes 45 days incl non training/playing days. Perhaps this shows some effort to increase players' fitness for the start of the season. | | | |

One million per cent agree. If enough groundswell builds up CN will react, as he makes a lot of popularist decisions, sometimes contradicting his original aims (like bringing in Hayden, for example). I don't see him firing his first hire/recommendation, instead they'll create this new position, which will either work and he'll be lauded, or they will have some readymade excuse and a candidate to chop!
