Defending 08:17 - Nov 14 with 306 views | stuabd | Just listened to the Monday Night Club on the bbc podcast site. Pretty interesting stuff on coaching defenders, zonal marking etc. George Graham called in and spoke about the amount of time he spent working with his back 4. Interestingly after last week's Bowan interview, he said he'd be surprised if all teams were not spending at least 2 days a week on defending set pieces etc. His analysis and description of some of his training methods made for good listening. Danny Mills also chipped with some stuff about the art of defending and zonal marking in the modern game. Overall, it's worth a listen and is also quite depressing when you think of our 'let's ignore the basics of defending' approach. http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/5lfd [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Or that such sessions are a recent innovation for QPR? Look how we defended at the Emirates, look how we defended against Stoke's aerial threat. OK, we lost both games. The first to a blatantly offside goal, minutes after a CB was sent off, the second to a massive error by Traore. It's never going to be perfect but we are starting to look like a solid defensive unit. At least, until we go to Old Trafford.

Spot on. The silly mistakes every now and then are just in the spotlght because our games are all pretyy close affairs and we can't score. Let's start the witch hunt at the other end of the pitch and ask who is coaching the strikers?
