My son Henry, aged 11, had to write a "persuasive" essay for his English class -- that is, an essay designed to persuade the reader of some point of view. I seriously think that this may be the greatest essay ever written for school in the history of schools. Of course, I may be biased seeing as he is my son, so I would be interested to get your opinion. Read it and let me know what you think.

Who is the most evil team in sports? You might say the Steelers or maybe the Yankees because they eat babies. But I say Scum is the most evil team in sports. “Who is Scum?” you might ask. Scum is Chelsea Football Club, a London soccer team. But Chelsea is so evil that they don’t deserve a respectable name, and here is why:
First, it is the rivals of QPR, my favorite team. Both play in West London, within three miles of each other. The two teams have been rivals for centuries.
Also Scum has a reputation as a racist team with racist fans. My Dad remembers when Scum’s fans would throw bananas on the field whenever a black player would play. Another recent example occurred a couple of months ago when John Terry, Scum’s captain, made a racist remark to QPR’s defender Anton Ferdinand, in QPR’s one-nil defeat over Chelsea at Loftus Road. Because of this, John Terry got his England captaincy taken away.
Last but not least, Scum messed up the game of soccer in England. In 2003, Russian multi-billionaire Roman Abromovitch bought Scum. Since he bought the team, it has become the most free-spending team in the soccer world. With virtually unlimited money at his fingertips, Abromovitch has been able to run the team at an annual loss of over $150 million, racking up billions in debt while ruining other teams and the competitive nature of the game, by luring away other teams’ star players. Now cash has corrupted the game, so that it is not about the team or homegrown talent, but about the amount of money the team has.
And this is why you should hate Chelsea as much as I do.
