He has more about him than Will Still. I sense that he is more intense, more serious, more determined and focused and he has done a good job. But it's another huge risk and with his lack of experience, things could end in tears. He has a contract for the rest of this season and next. That could be a mistake if we don't end this season in a good way.
Boro absolutely thrashing Hull to cement their place in second. Seems like they have appointed a good manager. Can't see us getting top two with so many points to make up. Best we can hope for is playoffs, 6th or 5th, but who fancies our chances playing someone like Millwall away in the 2nd leg? This season could well Peter out if we don't get back to winning games, week after week.
I went to Highfield Road, when Saints lost 1 nil in 97 I think. I also remember beating Coventry 3 1 Ronnie Ecklund and Le Tissier wasn't it that day? Bruce Grobellar let in a terrible goal. Only been their new ground once, again I think we lost. Also remember Le Tissier scoring a cracker in a 1 all draw, in the Souness year.
Always remember a huge game against them, a relegation 6 pointer at the Dell, when we were two nil up. Benali gave the ball away to Peter Ndlovu, who made it 2 each. Strachan kept them up a few times before they went down. Their fans packed out the pubs directly outside the Dell that day and they were a very noisy bunch in the ground that day. It was a big game. We then went on to beat Sunderland away at Roker Park I think and we pulled off another great escape.
Go back a little before that, we beat Coventry at the Dell and big Ron Atkinson kicked off at the sky pundits after the game.
What is really unfair, is that Man City, Chelsea and other big clubs get away with serious breaches of the rules.
The previous owner has now left the club, so who are they are intending to punish or teach a lesson? The football league must have allowed Chansiri to pass the the fit and proper test, so where's their punishment?
It probably depends where you are sat, as the two tiers found it difficult to sing the same songs at the same time. A few Millwall fans were saying we played our part and they could hear us with 3000 in one end, and not many teams bring that many to the ground. Without being sat at the other end, it's difficult I think to judge how loud or quiet we were although we arn't as intimidating and as ferocious as the Millwall support, for sure. Sing when we're winning but that's true for most teams. Millwall didnt get going until they scored. I will agree that we rarely see St Mary's crackling with all stands singing like .Millwall did Saturday.
1) I also got a free pint. Wouldn't happen at St Mary's under Sport Republic 😜.
2) I went up with Nicks Away Travel. Great scenic tour of London, driving past the Thames, the millennium wheel and Houses of Parliament. Well done to the driver getting through hordes of people and cars beeping in central London. I wouldn't want to drive through that.
3) I thought the atmosphere was brilliant, great from us but unfortunately for us the stadium was crackling with roars, when they scored their goals. It's a proper old school ground, without the tourists and cameras. Fans jumping on the advertising boards, the whole ground singing in an intimidating fashion. Loved it. Championship grounds like this beat soulless huge PL stadiums hands down.
4) To the fans who jumped all over me, when Armstrong scored, don't worry nothing broken, just a few slightly cracked ribs.
5) Shame about the result. I think Millwall deserved the win, and I think they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. I wouldn't want to play them in the play offs, with the second leg at the Den, that's for sure. On reflection, we were only a few seconds from a resilent well earned point but they were the stronger side.
But we have eyes. He can say he was excellent, but we all know the truth so what is the point of lying? Does it not make someone look more stupid if they say something that we all know is totally false?
Oozing respect. Koeman was such a powerful leader, who was.so respected, experienced and successful as a player and manager, he could give players home truths in public with such passion and power. He played for Barcelona, his country managed the top clubs in the world, you had to listen to him. When talking about experience and respect, this is what I mean. He would sort out Aribo and some of these players. A proper leader.
Eckert told the Echo, “I am very happy with Joe. He has been excellent every time he has come on, and he is in very good shape. "
Yes man again? Too scared of player power to tell the truth? Eckert has done a good job. But he is a typical Sport Republic PR man, who will say the right things. I worry long term. SR love someone who toes the line.
The problem today was that Millwall had sussed out a way to stop us passing out from the back quickly, by pressing us really high, so.we ended up passing across the back because we couldn't get out. Millwall have an experienced championship manager and team, that worked us out today.
I suspect he will get the job, but I am worried long-term. Tonda has turned things around and done brilliantly as a caretaker manager but worry he will get outdone by more experienced managers on days like today. This was a real test today, and Tonda didn't quite get it right and we got beat. When there are fine lines in tough games, I am not convinced he would get us promoted.
The Millwall fans give out flowers on the roads surrounding The Den. I am not sure why. Last time there, there were skin head Millwall fans giving out flowers. I never understood why.
He was terrible and I am amazed some fans and the club couldn't see it. As you say, we have wasted so many points because of one man. Our team is excellent, but they were terrible under Still because they so very badly managed.
The players were roundly booed off, "you're not fit to wear the shirts" was the chant. A very toxic environment, with chants against the board and ownership too. Will Still also rightly booed after the game, and to those who say "What good does it do, get behind the team?"
Since then we have won 4 in a row, with fantastic performances. We got rid of a terrible manager and the players are giving us their all. So booing, "negativity", giving them a rocket, works. Hold high standards and put them under pressure. It did them no harm did it to let this club and players know what we expect?
So.many said this team couldnt score goals and that we only beat a poor QPR and poor Sheff Wed. Even then, people couldn't see that we had good players being dreadfully managed. We have a great team that needed a rocket, needed to.be criticised and needed a new manager.
So to all the fans who rightly chanted, rightly booed,.rightly slammed the whole club - Thank You. We have our Saints back.
Thanks for highlighting this Nick. I am of the opinion that nobody should jump the queue, or get tickets in front of loyal fans, just because they are a sponsor or a friend. If sponsors, friends whoever want a ticket and go to every game, fair enough. Rocking up at the big games, ahead of loyal fans, just because they fancy a big game, isn't right IMO. And to get tickets that they don't use, so the seats are empty, what a disgrace, talk about selfish. At least have the courtesy to tell the club, you won't be using them and let loyal fans, who would love to be there supporting the team, have them instead.
It's definitely happened before, and loyal fans who want tickets really should be made aware of what is happening here. Who gets given these tickets and then don't bother turning up? It's really not fair if a group of say 150 people have reserved seats for every game, but barely turn up to support the team, unless it's a big game, particularly for the Pompey game, when every true fan of this club is desperate for a ticket.
I might email the club, but not sure I will get a reply. It's crazy that the game is sold out, then a whole section of seats is empty on the day. I don't think friends and family of club staff, who rarely go to games should be getting tickets ahead of loyal fans if that's the case.
1) We also drove up, parked up on the outskirts and got the tube in.
2) Their fans were terrible. Surprising considering I saw them all in the play offs when they invaded the pitch and they looked really passionate. Not yesterday.
3) The away end facilities were dreadful. A bundle of fans queuing up for drinks and food. The toilets were cramped and I have never seen so many stickers on the toilet doors and walls! Full credit to our fans covering up the PFC letters written in pen, with our own stickers! The view of the pitch was good though. As I stated in a other thread, why is there empty seats in a sold out away end, in one particular block?
4) Great to see happy fans again. A few people, who clearly thought we had poor players, couldn't score because we didn't have a striker, thinking it would take time to build a squad, and thought it wasn't the manager's fault, were very shocked about how well we played, starting to realise just how bad Still was. I wasn't shocked. We have good players, lots of goal scorers who either weren't being played or were thoroughly p!ssed off. Without Still, we have won 3 in a row and scored 10 goals. And yesterday ofcourse, was as convincing as we have seen in years.
5) Onwards and upwards. Great result and performance. It was great celebrating in London after the game, singing at train stations, a few drinks and many people saying good result for you today. A nice change.
