How about a few “not a lot of people know thats”

He was also the owner of, probably, the most highly valued collection of Zanzibar stamps in existence. Bequeathed by his father.

4 Clean sheets in a row

Define "good."

The number of games, size of squads, consistent quality of opposition teams. These are major factors in this division. It's not like the Premier League where teams can rotate players like they're on the waltzer at the fairground — Nkuku, for example, has only played in Chelsea's European games in case he gets hurt. It takes a different kind of "good" to play in our league. Stamina, versatility, resiliance, as well as ability.

Madsen today

He's slower than a wet week in Widnes, but I reckon Madsen can put the ball on a sixpence from anywhere on the pitch. That, alone, is a skill worth a place in the team.

Thing is Smyth works down the right. But Saito and Chair produce from the left. Based on what we've seen so far Saito is much weaker on the right side, and I can't recall ever having noticed Ilias doing much over there either. I'd have him play deeper and more central, that way we might be able play all three of them.

Music that makes you cry.

I don't think Springsteen's The Rising has been included yet.

Conceived and written in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 it's emotional charge never wanes. Presented as the fever dream/nightmare of a first responder, the chorus is, paradoxically, almost like a Pentecostal service. It shouldn't work but it does.

"Faces gone, black eyes burnin' bright" gets to me every time...

Everything but the goal - Report
at 22:26 1 Dec 2024

I missed yesterday's match (4:00am k.o. here, plus overnight visitors.) I caught DAzN's 10 minute highlight package later though. Interestingly seven minutes was all QPR's attacking goalmouth action and about 3 minutes Watford's. Based on comments here that would seem to be an accurate proportion, yes?

Without possession we collapse like a wet paper bag into our own end. Not a good tendency.

We're still at six and sevens defending corners. Why?

I'm cerain Celar's moving significantly faster now than he was before he scored.

It was a lovely goal. Not lucky and, hopefully, no fluke.

Kolli has to be better up front than Celar doesn't he?

Yup. Koki's forward passing options are Smyth and Celar. Poor little bugger.

Respect indeed. He also plays with genuine joy, or appears to. An apparent rarity in today's high-stress footballing environments.

Saito

Nardi aside, he's surely our most consistent pre-season signing. Game in and game out, whoever the opponent, whatever the weather, or the angst surrounding our club he delivers, usually with a smile on his face. Sure, he's "what it says on the packet" type of winger. Take it to the goal line, trick your way past two or three defenders (that's the hard bit) and cross into the box where, ideally, a couple of strikers will be licking their lips. Unfortunately he can't do too much about the last bit at the moment. Maybe when Frey gets back his build up will show more results.

Bonfire of the vanities – Report
at 02:37 7 Nov 2024

He's an oddity. When he does something (rarely) it's often impressive. His crossfield passing ability is very good, just (cough) infrequent. I don't think he "hides," as many on here do. He wouldn't have stepped up and nailed the penalty goal he scored if he did. Mainly he's immobile and doesn't seem to know where he's supposed to be at any given moment. And when he does it takes him a leap year to get there.

That was pitiful. This has the feel of a watershed result. Something significant has to change. Quickly and decisively.
