Rangers v the Oat Cake Eaters match thread
at 08:25 21 Nov 2024

When we’ve needed a helping hand in the past Stoke have been rather kind to us. That’s about the only hope I have of us getting 3 points.

Hard to see any combination of presently fit players winning at this level.

QPR triumph in five-goal 75 thriller against Stoke - History

Nearly 50 years ago yet mysteriously I remember stuff like this like it was yesterday.

Fantastic atmosphere and when that last minute goal went in you felt something brewing.

Probably their way of saying, we’ll have everybody back by xmas bar one so no need for any signings in January.

1973/74 Season

Remember that game well.

Our headmaster at morning assembly warned anyone who wasn’t on the afternoon register would be expelled, suspended minimum yet what seemed like half the school decamped at lunch time heading over the bridge on Du Cane Road and down to the ground.

Watched the game from the top floor of the flats behind the school end with predominantly Chelsea supporting school friends. Think that might have been the first time we beat Chelsea in our history.

Bloemfontein Road after wasn’t such a pleasant experience with scores of Doc Martin clad Chelsea skinheads coming in the opposite direction.

He likes to have the ball at his feet, get heavily involved in all our passing movements.

I’d stick him in goal.

UFC
at 08:44 17 Nov 2024

Being centre right, I don’t do cancelling. Glad you brought this sport up and your level headed approach to it.

However, unlike boxing, I do have a problem with UFC. Increasingly, the proliferation of street violence being seen on social media seems to be influenced by the fighting in the UFC ring and human beings are brutally assaulted and injured. Body slamming and the beating on the floor to a defenceless victim is not something easily withstood by people outside that arena.

You’d be entitled to say boxing has a similar influence and it does, but the Queensbury rules aspect of that, by and large, means that once a person has been incapacitated they are not then beaten to a pulp. Yes it does happen, sadly there are some psychos out there, but to me UFC encourages the kind of onslaught outside the ring that boxing does not.

As a country we are far too lenient on street violence. I love boxing but Courts need to correlate not just the act of violence but how it’s related to media influence.

If I had to watch that lot training every day I’d be in a bad mood.

The football he brought here was dire but you can’t get away from how he transformed Wycombe to become a far better side than their facilities should allow. Shrewsbury a comparable club with Wycombe so hope it goes well for him.

Actually, this is good news. Am sure at the end of 23 we were top of the most games lost in the last 10 years.

New contracts all round

I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a covenant stating ‘subject to Queens Park Rangers becoming a non league club, the stadium can then be sold and converted to £1m boutique apartments’.

Good question.

I myself hadn’t heard of Blue Sky but googled for a definition and it says;
There is now Bluesky and Mastodon, which generally lean left or liberal.

I hope LFW’s chief influencer isn’t turning this site political again.

You know that’s happening between Marti and those above him?

That would be a game changer if you have proof.

You make it sound like Nourry orders a Madsen, sends it in a 6 ft 4 package to Marti’s office via DPD in a one hour time slot and our manager excitedly unwraps it shouting ooh what have we got here then?

It’s possible I guess, but extremely unlikely.

Feels like all the against the odds success stories in recent times have come from teams who reinvented themselves somewhere in or between League One and the National League.

The financial constraints on the Championship are far more severe than lower leagues, our stadium size which the owners have done nothing to solve and the handicap that takes on us means we’d almost certainly, in the long run, be better off taking the drop.

It would increase our chances of finding new owners, you’d have to be a fool taking over a club like ours in the Championship, and actually give the existing owners a greater chance of finding a way out.

We’ve gone stale in this division, every successful relegation battle just seems to present a new relegation battle the following season.
