Only 3 points off the sacred 50 and a positive goal difference. The seasons begun. |

Indeed. Whatever he’s up to when the balls at his feet, he spends 90 mins giving centre backs a right old battle. |

Thought we played and won away as well as a limited side could do. Pleased for Bennie, that was an exquisite strike. |

As long as there’s FFP our heads will be constantly bobbing just above or below the water line, pretty much like every other Championship club. Good stuff from Simon, seems we’re reenacting the 2021 season and one three or four years before that, come up briefly for air, then back under and hold your breath, although these days, perhaps with a better focus. Short of getting promoted, football needs to look at the fundamental issues that create the problems. If salaries were limited to say 85% of income, still ridiculously high, it would improve our situation by nigh on £3.5 mill a year, over £10 mill on a 3 year cycle. Would your average footballer losing 13% of his salary put him on the bread line, I think not. I’m pretty sure too, you’d still see the same players in the same league playing for the same team as all clubs would be placed in the same situation and as we know, if they’re good enough to play in the Premier, that is where they will go. The club have in recent years done an excellent job in filling the ground, although probably taking a hit around £500k-£1m with the lower school end. Usually, when demand matches supply, which were getting very close to, a business will see this as an opportunity to increase ticket prices. I suspect in future years, ST prices will go up at a higher percentage than over the last ten year average. A 15% increase raises another £1mill a season and I would think the season gones marginal fall in ticket sale income won’t go unnoticed. Finally, Ruben is still taking a hit of £20 mill a year. When you’ve got the kind of money where you can take that hit, I’m always surprised that owners don’t decide to use an equivalent amount of money to set up a non football company, link it to the club, using profits to reduce the football deficit and use that to build a better football team. Seems more sensible than just throwing money at a lost cause year on year. |

5 leagues of 20 sorts this out. Speed of football now doesn’t fit these crazy schedules. |

Good point, he contributes three times as much as our entire support through the turnstiles. Just think about that. I hope our incredibly well paid players take note and perhaps get their heads around showing him some return. |

Heh heh, he planned that well. Wasn’t sure on the 22/23 losses, guess that £54m loss might come down by £10m say, for FFP allowables. That’ll be interesting, for a while I think there may have been a relaxation on the FFP boundaries, we’ll find out now. Incidentally, I thought successive governments were trying to get an arrangement between the Premier and the EFL on financing,is that still alive? |

Not pretty. Over the last two years we’ve accumulated £35m losses, so if FFP is still set at £39m over a rolling three year period we’ve got about £4m of losses to play with this season! It’s not necessarily that bad as once again, Eze comes to the rescue. Again, to what level, who knows, but let’s work with £9m, which gives us £13m this season. Add on any allowable expenses that don’t go under FFP, we maybe have £20m or thereabouts, for this season, so we maybe just touch the boundary yet again. Obviously there’s two glaring issues, one, we aren’t being very successful with this buy to sell malarkey, and ask any businessman if a 98% ratio of wages to gross turnover is a sign of a business being ran well and he’ll laugh you out of town. |

I see the Blackburn substitute who lasted about 15 minutes on our pitch went off with a ruptured Achilles and is out until 2027. |

3’s, 4’s and 5’s all round and spot on. It’s hard to remember a home game where everybody was so utterly useless. I’m expecting a steady decline into the bottom half until the sun feels warm on their backs sometime in March and they’ll make a recovery taking us just close enough to the top six for us to think ‘if only’. Roll up, roll up, there’s a market for mid table that the management and players have tapped into and they won’t loosen the rope around our necks easily. |

Was on a golf trip a while back. I was still using a brush and the old green Palmolive stick, now discontinued, and it caused quite a stir. About 17-18 of us in a villa, all of them crowded into my bathroom to have a look at what shaving was like in a previous century. Still get some shit about that. Anyway, gone the gel route now. Works well but not sure if gel or foam canisters last the longest. That’s my next project. |

‘14 months of shaving’. Really? I buy a box of 10 blades and one stick, at best they last one month, ten months with a box of 10. Am I being robbed of 4 months shaving, or doing something wrong? I should point out, used purely for facial shaving and once a day. |

I’m reading that first sentence over and over again in sheer disbelief. I suppose it galvanises the management, a nice get out of jail card to quote when once again it all goes south. |

Good spot, didn’t realise that. Guess they timed their runs well and we don’t do runs. |

May can be a tricky time for football fans to plan a holiday, but not if you’re a QPR supporter. Any ideas that can be May specific for good weather and good value, particularly with the World Cup covering a month of 2026 prior to school summer holidays. |
