It would be interesting to know where the secret police and death squads are.

I see a country that has achieved almost total literacy for it's people, free health care, education, up to and including university,y with classroom sizes that would shame any western country. A crime rate that is one of the lowest in he world, 80% home ownership, a country that has trained in excess of 50, 000 doctors that go to others countries to help, all free of charge. All this achieved during the American trading embargo.

I'm sure they have regular elections too

"It would be interesting to know where the secret police and death squads are."

That's one of the first questions prosecutors for the successor regime will be asking.

And a country with a state run press, TVs, radio .

Castro ,a man that sent mercenaries half way across the world to slaughter.

A man feared by his people.

Still, he stood up to America so that s enough for our lot.

Stalin s death would also have seen posts of praise on here.

Some years ago I called George Galloway a useful idiot as he is an admittedly extreme but completely logical conclusion of the modern left's fetishisation of any regime, regardless of how brutal, so long as it is anti-American.

And I got ruined for it...

The orthodox are always orthodox, regardless of the orthodoxy.

The Cubans that left Cuba, didn't leave because of persecution, they left because the economy collapsed, and it collapsed because of the US embargo. They fled to the very country that caused the problems, so I don't think they have any credibility to criticise Castro

Harsh socialist dictator.

But he advanced the island of Cuba and peoples living standards big time after over throwing the fascist regime.

Free education and universities for all and good health care really improved peoples lives .

Mixed feelings on this one.

What about Amnesty International? Do they have the necessary 'credibility' for you to take the criticisms of the Castro regime seriously?

It's not the Castro regime that is imprisoning and torturing without trial in Cuba, it's that other big powerful democracy that does that, or do you have selective judgment?

I said those without trial, and most had nothing to do with terrorism. Many were arrested and sent them just on hearsay and usually for a financial reward

Did other nations embargo Cuba, or just the US?

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Others followed the US lead. And the US sanctions clearly had the most impact, for obvious reasons.

What on earth are you talking about? There have been thousands of defectors who have left for political reasons. You criticise the government, you get persecuted. You leave the country, you ain't coming back.

This is happening now and over the last few decades. It's not opinion.

Such a revolutionary against capitalism.. A true bastion of the working man.. survived countless supposed assasination attempts.

I wonder what they're going to do with all those billions he fleeced off the people?

And Crippen was less prolific than Shipman. I can't say as I would relish the thought of an appointment with either.

Ripped one? I don't think so pal but you crack on eh?

I told them the facts and they basically resorted to ad hoc statements pulled from American 'news'.

They swam away because of the tough embargo imposed on them from the USA and the west. It crippled the country. Read the full facts before posting If I were you. You obviously have zero knowledge of Cuba, Castro or what was before he took power.

I think your obsession with me is getting out of hand.

2 Texans who obviously read everything they see on TV. Yet a lot of my American friends know the real truth and it is far from what these Texan tvvats believe. You love America Darran so you will follow whatever they say.

And for the record America has destroyed more lives than any country on the planet. Fidel is a saint in comparison.
