Villa losses on 16:29 - Mar 5 by actonman | Solidarity ? Everybody else cheating the system while we have are pants pulled down with the rough end of a pineapple slowly inserted up the chuff . No solidarity from me . The more clubs who get caught and penalised the better until the FL do away with “fair” play bllox and run the league sensibility rather than looking after the big clubs |

It was a pretty innocuous comment about being angry at the right people, try not to get upset.

Villa losses on 16:11 - Mar 5 by CroydonCaptJack | I don't get that mate. Surely those costs aren't disallowable or everyone would do that. |
Winning promotion is the minimum requirement which automatically excludes most teams. APPENDIX E — Promotion Related Payments 1.2 Appropriate adjustment may be made such that the total amount of any Promotion Related Payments is excluded from the calculation of the Fair Play Result. The story with Randy Lerner, as I heard it, was that the new owners didn't have enough cash available to buy him out completely and so arranged a sort of performance related scheme where he got paid extra when the club achieved promotion back to the Premier League. It doesn't sit well with me either, but I'm sure a decent lawyer could argue the case that it fits within the regulations.

Who made up these regulations. It seems if you get into debt enough to fail FFP and get promoted you will eventually pay a fine to the FA like us. Whereas if you get into the same amount of debt and get promoted but some of it is a promotion related payment you have broken no rules.

Villa losses on 14:07 - Mar 5 by loftboy | The PL have approved the sale of the ground to the owners, more loopholes in football than any industry I can think of. I reckon our fine will end up to be the only real punishment handed out to anyone. |
Perhaps we will get a trophy for it.

If the figures on Villa's website are correct, they incurred this massive loss because they were promoted, it is not what got them promoted. If they hadn't won promotion, after also excluding the standard disallowable costs, they would have lost around £12million. Looking back at our promotion season, we'd have needed to record a loss, after excluding all disallowable costs, of somewhere over £45million to warrant a fine of £42million - not that the EFL enforced all of that. Those disallowable costs included somewhere north of £10 million worth of promotion bonuses according to Kieran Maguire. I'm not defending FFP, just trying to explain the numbers.

Still does not change my point. Promotion by paying big transfers and wages is penalised whereas promotion by paying big incentives is OK.

Villa losses on 11:53 - Mar 7 with 730 views | francisbowles | Can somebody clarify this, please. Doesn't the accounting period finish at the beginning of April? Aren't promotion bonuses paid when promotion is achieved i.e. May?
