Corona Virus on 23:48 - Mar 14 by ladyjack | China the original epicenter of the Corona virus is now said by many commentators to be containing the virus, we should learn from their methods. |
China has not beaten this thing. It may have reduced infections through strict isolation but the virus is still a major threat to the Chinese people. There are only 2 ways a population will defeat the virus; either through immunity from infection or through vaccination. You are almost certainly a troll but I hope this is a simple enough concept for you to grasp.

Corona Virus on 01:55 - Mar 15 with 1978 views | ExiledJack | I have to agree with LadyJack, containment is the only approach that makes sense. Immunity is a theory at this stage according to the WHO, and we may never have a vaccine. It would be much harder to get results from containment now than it would have been a few months ago, when it was time to act. Even now, it will save lives. Alas the will is not there.

Immunity is not a theory. It's a fact and it can only be achieved one of two ways. Either someone gets infected naturally and recovers (99% of people will experience this for Covid 19) or through a man made vaccine which will probably take us 12 months to deliver. Think it through. You can't keep 3bn people locked up and hope the virus naffs off somewhere and dies.

I don't think China has beaten Coronavirus either it might well comeback but they have contained it for now according to many commentators.

They did lockdown though, we haven't and they did perhaps it's us that can't afford lockdown.

Corona Virus on 22:59 - Mar 14 by Jack123 | Good post, I was thinking earlier, surely it would have been better once the outbreak happened in wuhan, to stop all incoming transport, nobody enters. I think I'm most probably talking a few months before your timeline, but I think that's what should have been done, no doubt they will implement something like that soon, but when you think of it, if the uk had stopped all entries when it was first reported, there would be no need for what we are going through now. |
We'll never know but if we asume (for arguments sake) stopping all entries was the right decision it didn't happen, probably because of the effect on the economy. In the beginning small steps were taken, was it purely in the hope of not trashing the economy? Did countries put money before people? I'll say yes. We should have shut down travel as soon as the quick spread becam obvious, we should have quarantined areas where cases were reported and not relied on people to self regulate because people can't be trusted. We are stupid and selfish. That leaves us to follow the rules as laid down and hope for the best but even these light touch rules are being ignored, we've seen evidence of that on here. Air travel from areas badly affected was allowed, people were allowed to self regulate and are people really surprised at the outcome?

Thank you. Those visuals are really helpful. The further question it asks is how the desired level of social distancing is best achieved. I’m thinking on a personal level really as I work in a school. Is it best to shut schools at all? If it is, when? My best guess (and it is a guess based on how things were shaping up last week) is it may be taken out of our hands based on whether we have enough staff to run. I think we may see individual school closures before any national shut down.

According to one expert that Lisa extol the virtues of on here he says school children will be used to infect the general population at a time of their choosing to build up herd immunity depending on the hospital capacity at the appropriate time.
Corona Virus on 08:33 - Mar 15 with 1729 views | ladyjack | https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51893736 More ventilators hey, oh dear. Isolating families is it Boris that is not the way the Chinese did it. I wonder if the Government now recognise we are under resourced, the Government seem to have no plan I can see them u-turning to a degree on the herd immunity thing, as some schools are closing of their own accord and it's the same with sports events and the like, how much time have we now lost following a plan that seems to be failing already.

Corona Virus on 23:06 - Mar 14 by ItchySphincter | FFS stop trolling. Get over the fact that in a global society it can’t be contained and ignored. It’s out there and we either have to develop immunity or cure. Running scared is not an option. |
Well said. Mikel Arteta’s wife was speaking on the radio this morning and said her husband has recovered and only had very mild symptoms and would have under normal circumstances taken a paracetamol and carried on with his life, work etc. I’m not an expert but surely common sense says protect the elderly & vulnerable and the rest take precautions such as washing your hands, stay away from the elderly & vulnerable if possible. Personally I think the prime minister is doing a good job in regards to Coronavirus and the conspiracy theory that this is about killing people off is so off the wall, the people who think it should be locked up in a mental hospital.

It wouldn't matter who was in Government they would have tried to protect the economy. Bojo is an easy target but I don't see the Senedd closing down schools, saying we need a lockdown. Drakeford is following Bojo's lead and I would suggest it's so he has someone else to blame when the death toll rises. Drakeford could lead but I don't think he's up to it and to be honest, there are decisions to be taken that I wouldn't want to have to decide on. Whatever we do now, a lot of people will die.

The likes of Trampie and Kilkenny would like to see lots of people die so they can blame the government. Their hatred of the government and the U.K. means the ends justify the means.

What a strange thing to think dgt, I would not want anybody to die and I'm sure Kilkenny would be the same. If we taxed people more and had a socialist society then we would have better facilities and resources to deal with this crisis.
