| Glastonbury....one of my regrets. on 21:14 - Jun 28 with 1117 views | Toast_R | Went in 2007 my only time. Woke up in my tent on the Friday morning and it was raining, it didnt stop for 3 days. By Friday night it was muddy by Saturday it was a complete mud bath, mud being churned into more mud. Every step was a major effort not to slip on your arse and get irreversibly covered in it. Peoples tents were flooded out, it was a real sh*t show as far as camping went. The only thing you could do was get hammered and then it didnt seem so bad or you just cared less. Saw Amy Winehouse, The Killers, Manics, Kooks, some good obscure ones on over stages. The Who were the headline act on the Sunday night but id had enough by Sunday morning, my legs ached from walking in thick mud for 3 days and I wanted out before the traffic. Got home, watched The Who in my living room, dry and comfy. I'd go again if you could guarantee the weather but now in my 40s, I quite prefer local festivals with amateur bands. Live music is live music. | | | |

| Glastonbury....one of my regrets. on 12:31 - Jun 28 by ngbqpr | Been once. Blew me away - and I'm a seasoned festival / gig / club-goer. Would go every year if I could but it's a lottery trying to get tickets tbh. What you see on TV (both artists and make up of the crowd) is only a mere fraction of the event. I'm sure there are one or two others around the world that maybe match it (Burning Man maybe? Anyone on here been?) - but the other UK festivals don't come close imho. |
UK wise Glastonbury is in a league of it's own. Because of the shear size and scale there is something for everyone. I've had better times elsewhere but now as an old git it's probably one of the only do's I would go to without feeling embarrassed. Carnival is another. Went to Burning Man once. Amazing but very different vibe. I think there were about 10,000 there. More arty and out there with a crowd to match. Can't remember a whole lot but mescaline, rollerskates and mountain bikes wer e a running theme. [Post edited 28 Jun 2020 21:19]

That was by far the biggest gig I've ever been to. Good day out but I've always been a small venue kind of bloke. Had to kip in the car until 5am getting out of the car park at MK [Post edited 28 Jun 2020 22:27]

Great performance from Bowie. Regret never seeing him live. Still hard to think he's gone. There will never be the likes of him again.

It's a bit like Paul McCartney. Whenever he goes wherever these people go to. These people don't die.

Didnt want to go as I dont like crowds, camping and bad toilets but I absolutely loved it. A fantastic emotional experience and even though there were some great bands, it's much more than just watching music. It is indeed out of this world Managed to get tickets again last year and loved it again, same thing and cant wait to go again if I ever manage to get some tickets

| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

It may have been the same year or the following year that I also went to Windsor Park free festival but I have no recollection of who was appearing other than The Pink Fairies with various members of Hawkwind joining them. I also went to Reading about that time and Rod Stewart and the Faces were headlining and IMO, it was one of the best live performances I have attended.

Slightly shocking to think he was a younger than I am now when he did that set; and he's been gone more than four years. Makes you wonder how long you've got left, and what to do with it. Admittedly I didn't spend the 70s shovelling industrial quantities of coke through myself which may help on the life expectancy. PS I thought Stationtostation was the highlight of the set, though Heroes was ace obviously.

| Glastonbury....one of my regrets. on 01:17 - Jun 28 by smegma | I went in 89 and 90 before the BBC showed up along with the pHooray Henry's/Henriettas. In 89 it was 60k and in 90 it went up to 90k. I thought it was too overcrowded in 90 and tickets were only £34. Never fancied it since. |
I went exactly the same two years. 1989 it was one of the best weekends of my life. Scorching hot, pitched tent within view of Pyramid stage, fantastic atmosphere. Next year they put it up from £28-£38, the crowd was much bigger and had to pitch in a field miles away. Different atmosphere, not nearly as friendly, then the crowds started getting huge, the ticket price sky rocketed and never really fancied it again. I remember going to Reading on the last day a few years ago, walking through one of the campsites and it was the smell that got me - bit like going to the rubbish tip after it has rained.
| Glastonbury....one of my regrets. on 10:32 - Jul 1 with 445 views | londonscottish | I went to Glasto in 92. Roasting hot, good crowd. Saw Blur, 808 State and some other bands. But what was more fun was that was the year the rave tent arrived along with various sound systems. I remember going to bed one night at 2.00 and being woken up at 4.00 because my mates a fantastic rave going off from the back of an old army truck. Had a great few days but never went back - did a few smaller ones after that (Big Chill, Camp Bestival etc). Part of the reason for not going to more festivals was that I got lazy. Every year Norman Jay and Sancho Panza came to Carnival and I got my festival fix that way. | |
