Paul Smyth back out on loan 12:47 - Sep 22 with 4688 viewsbosh67

In various papers about him going out on loan again. Seems a bit mad really considering he's looked sharp and at it in his sub performances so far. Plus we are risking a horrible lack of options if Manning or/and BOS go. Hope it's paper talk?

Never knowingly right.

Agreed. We look very thin.

If two or three of this squad go out on loan we are going to really suffer when the fixture schedule gets heavier.

Never knowingly right.

whatever you think of him good or bad I do think we'd be mad to loan out a player with first team experience when we have so many games this season in short bursts. That goes for the likes of Gubbins and bettache as well. May well be better for their development to play but club need to make sure they have enough bodies to cover injuries, illness etc

I’d have thought that if we get to the stage where teams are struggling to put out a side due to illness then the season will be suspended. We can’t be expected to stock-pile players to cover for Covid.

Given the news at Orient and West Ham it wouldn't be surprising if all league games are suspended again in the near future.

Not really covering for COVID but when you have so many games in a short space of time and an already small squad just think it would be mad to loan players out

Agreed but I assume they must have “better” players lined up if he does go. It’s a shame but not really a great surprise as he hasn’t featured for a while.

Being sold is indicative of being 'surplus to requirements', going out on loan not so. Or at least not anymore, nowadays it seems to be an accepted part of their development. Football has changed considerably; once upon a time being released on a 'free' was the ultimate insult for a player -Bosman has changed all that.

Semantics. If the manager decides to loan a player out for the season then he’s surplus to requirements for the season.

I think it's Shodipo who needs to get loaned. He keeps getting new deals despite not being fit and not doing much in his cameos

The general rule is if those in charge of the youth system place a player out on loan it's part of a historically successful development strategy, unless those same people do it with Steve McClaren in charge at which point it becomes a bombing out.
