Knows the Championship inside out. Always had Ipswich top ten. Happy to blood young players... Don't want him here ,but just saying

| Never mind Barton - Mick's available! on 11:13 - Jan 8 by Paddyhoops | Was it really that bad . The football? Maybe I watched it through a haze of alcohol. We played Spain of the park in the last 16 in Japan/Korea 2002. That was without that Judas, Keane ! Sorry to bring that up again!! |
Ok, let's just take that game, Paddy, as an example of how shockingly poor McCarthy was in his first spell. Firstly, Enrique at full-back got injured but had to paly on one leg as Spain were out of subs and McCarthy never thought to switch Duff over on to him. That was the game. Secondly, - and this bit is genius - David Albelda, himself a sub and playing out of position at full-back, got injured and had to come off. This left a gaping hole to be attacked. McCarthy never reacted. After the game when asked very politely what were his thoughts when Spain went down to ten men, his reply was "Did they?". Thirdly, McCarthy refused to let his teams practice penalties, being very vocal that practice bore no relation to reality. In normal time, Harte missed a penalty, then Keane scored to save the game and bring us to extra time. Then in the penalty shoot-out, Spain missed two, but we - who weren't allowed practice - missed three really awful attempts out of five.

| Never mind Barton - Mick's available! on 12:33 - Jan 8 by Myke | Alcohol tinted glasses certainly helped! You are right about the Spanish game Except for a couple of points: it was a poor Spanish team and led to a complete overhaul leading to a period of world and European dominance. We never had the courage or belief to go for the jugular even when Spain were down to 10 men.It has even been suggested that McCarthy was unaware of the numerical advantage! Certainly if Keane had been on the pitch. In the form he was in at that time, we would have put them to the sword. |
I watched the Spain game in a bar in corfu. It was a two week stay with my girlfriend. We'd been going out for about 4 months, so it was deal breaker. We got married two years later. Still together. Anyway. I degress. You're right it was a poor Spanish team who nevertheless got cheated in their next game, I think by the hosts!! I could never understand why Keane wouldn't put his grievances behind him until the tournament ended! Felt desperately let down by him!!

Good times so! Yeah the whole Keane saga was very divisive at the time. You were either in Keane's camp or McCarthy's. Of course the real loser was the team.

Looks like micky mack is back with Cardiff. Haven't the poor f***ers suffered enough. Actually they're Cardiff . Who cares!!
| Never mind Barton - Mick's available! on 11:12 - Jan 22 with 894 views | Northernr | Cardiff do seem to be on some weird quest to make their team as unwatchable as possible. | | | |
| Never mind Barton - Mick's available! on 11:28 - Jan 22 with 857 views | Myke | But would you not agree it's a good fit Clive? You often make the point that when we sack a manager, we bring in someone with a completely different style, which means we have to bring in a whole new layer of players. We joke about Forest, but we weren't too far behind them until Warburton's clear out in the summer of 2019. If they believe in the method, but think that McCarthy can do it better than Harris, then surely it's the way to go. No major complaints when they made the play-offs last season about style. And as I said earlier in this thread, Mick knows this division and has done well, often with inferior players than he has at his disposal. I'm glad we have the six points in the bag already. | | | |

Yeh no arguments here. Wouldn't be much use putting Warburton in charge of that squad, for instance, unless you did it at the start of a summer with some funds to transform it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Never mind Barton - Mick's available! on 12:46 - Jan 22 with 726 views | rsonist | Cardiff are unusual in that they went for continuity and not overhaul in the wake of Warnock leaving - Harris was a surprise appointment too. If it goes well it's clear-sighted steady pragmatism, if not it's diminishing returns of short termism. | | | |

Which kinda hints that the hierarchy believe if Mick can go on a run they could still sneak the play-offs. I guess there are enough games left alright, and they have just spent some money, but even I think that's a bit of a stretch for Mick.
