| Carroll's passing on 08:49 - Jan 14 by distortR | still on 1 assist, though. |
Yeah always imagine he’s much more effective on the training ground. For me, everything he does takes a second more than it should do, probably why the assists stat is so low.

I don't know if you're teasing me or missing my point. Carroll is a deep lying playmaker: he sets the tempo, maintains the team's equilibrium, and as such his role as far as attacking goes (never mind defensively!) is to assist the assister, probably the "pre-assister" even. Whether and to what extent the team's penetrative shortcomings are down to our implementation of/interaction with that role is open to discussion but pointing solely at his individual goals and assists columns is irrelevant either way.
| Carroll's passing on 11:43 - Jan 14 with 345 views | rsonist | As far as other examples of maddeningly stubborn former bankers holding fast to controversially difficult to quantify waifish midfielders go, Sarri <3 Jorginho might just be in the top 1. These sorts of players have always been given short shrift though, at least in this country. (Funny how Spurs have been producing them so long - Caskey, Clemence, Carroll, Carrick, Winks, Harvey White that played at the weekend looked a chip off the old block too...) | | | |

Who’s the big lad who ended up at Hull? Got a couple of England caps too? Edit: Tom Huddlestone. Certainly not a waif but your point still stands. [Post edited 14 Jan 2021 12:39]

Huddlestone? Big lad, ostentatious highlights reel pings, one bazooka shot in a blue moon - disqualified in this case. Caskey was more in the fat lazy cnt bracket too in fairness now I think about it. [Post edited 14 Jan 2021 12:46]
