| Did I ever mention that I was in Minder? |

| Child hood holidays. on 12:03 - Feb 17 by MrSheen | Schweinhund! An aunt of mine went to Jersey and thought it was the greatest place on earth because the fags were so cheap. |
Me and my mate went for a weeks holiday in St Aubins bay.It was in a b&b where the owner made sure he chatted to all his guests at breakfast time. You could buy a pint and 20 fags and still get change from a £1.We were so bored that I told him my Nan had died and I had to rush home to deal with it. There really was nothing to do apart from sit in the pub all day,so we came home early and sat in the pub all day back here.

There were a few day trips to Hayling Island and an occasional trip into central London to sightsee. Spain in 1983 was my first trip abroad.

At a previous employer, I was in account marketing and myself and a sales guy went on a visit to see our customer, Jersey Telecom, in around 2001. We had the meeting, then the sales guy took everyone out for an evening meal. Our company and the sales guy had a brilliant relationship with that customer, but, upon returning from the gents, the sales guy thought his customers were pushing things a bit. In his absence, a new bottle of wine had appeared and been opened...a £200 bottle of wine. The sales guy started stuttering and going pale, no doubt wondering how the hell he was going to expense that, only to be bailed out when one of the customer crew revealed the truth: They had got the waiter to fill up an empty bottle with water and bring it to the table The devils!

I was only 20, living at home, she was a couple of years older but still living at home so disposable income was pretty good! 1st real foreign holiday was a lads holiday Ibiza a couple of years later.

Sometimes to Margate & Ramsgate but every year Mum & Dad would take us on holiday. We eventually conquered Spain in 1969, entroviaform & tea bags in the luggage. Happy days😎 |
God, seeing Jaywick reminded me of probably our worst family holiday ever, when I was about 8 or 9? The coach rides to Clacton/ Jaywick seemed to take an eternity from Bromley, Kent. We stayed in a small grotty chalet with my parents and Great Uncle and it only had an outside Elsan toilet. We were told there were miles of sandy beaches, but they were grim and made worse by some ghastly stormy weather. 'orrible children in the nearby playground who were physically aggressive to my sister and I. There may have been some good bits but even they were bad as I recall. [Post edited 17 Feb 2021 16:05]
