I did it all, as always. I love doing it, look forward to it. Enormous turkey and gammon. This year’s winning innovations, a pinch of MSG in the gravy and roasted sprouts, trimmed and halved, tossed in oil and salt, 25 minutes at 215C.

Yeah, I do it in our house. Tukey, cashew nut roast, glazed parsnips and carrots, roasties, sprouts, yorkshires, gravy from the giblets and a veggie gravy - and bread sauce, which I love.
Did an eton mess as well, my first go making meringue -
Have to admit,I find the best guide for christmas dinner to be jamie oliver, however much a tvvat I think he is!

Roast 'em.

All day long - almost any veg goes x2 when roasted. Apart from lettuce, my friend from the IOM.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Too dry roasted imho.Chuck them in a wok and stir fry the suckas - you can do that with lettuce as well.

I say yay. Bread sauce essential with turkey too.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Thanks Boston but its way simpler that that.
Looks like its proper title is Irish Rutabagas/ turnips with Carmelized onions.
Just simply chop up an onion and cook or fry in olive oil until its golden brownor carmelized / blackish.
Peel chop and boil the turnip in salt water ,then drain and mash with butter salt and pepper.
Stir in the onions mix well and serve
Enjoy

If it is "Irish" and involves "Rutabaga", then ithe vegetable is actually what is known in England as Swede. (Swedes are called "Turnips" in NE Ireland and, I think, Scotland?).

I had a mixture of boiled and mashed Swede with Carrot, and some melted butter mixed in, as part of the trimmings at Xmas, and very popular it was, too.

Meanwhile, for next year, I pass on to you Tommy Cooper's recipe for Christmas Turkey:

Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees. Place your Turkey in a deep roasting tin and add one bottle of Whiskey, one bottle of Rum, one bottle of Vodka and one bottle of Port.

Roast for 3 hours until nicvely browned, then throw away the turkey and drink the gravy!

As soon as you hear the word 'rutabaga' you know you're in the mid-west.
