Swansea city centre on 18:31 - May 22 by builthjack | Which will go first, Scotland or Northern Ireland? Wales will follow. Within 20 years. |
Sinn Fein has a mandate in the GFA so i think thats first up now. A Border Poll. It has an international dimension that will stop Westmonster trying to deny the vote. Scotland will be next. The more time passes from 2014 then it dilutes the once a generation argument that Westmonster wants to deploy to deny the SNP and the Scottish people a second vote. Sturgeon police issues feels like a BritNat hit job, or where are the charges ? Cymru will be third. If we get a 7 or 8 percent jump for each of the above outcomes, then wales will be over the 50% level. It seems impossible until its done.

We can cancel elections in Wales - and instead just ask Boundy, Felix, Cock, and the lads on here. Seems legit ….

Okay keep dreaming of your nirvana because in 20 years time your obdurate viewpoint will remain just that. ' Swansea is an indie town' ( when many were bussed in ) just has to be the most stupidest statement in the forum's history!

The IRA /Sinn Fein have been threatening people for the last 100 years as well of course of resorting to bullying, intimidation , violence and of course murder. The Republican parties got 183 councillors and the Unionist got 186 councillors so not the overwhelming victory the IRA/SIN Fein have claimed. Not sure why you are polluting a forum on a peacefull march in Swansea with terrorist in NI.

It’s because of the glory of ((part) independence born out of the blood of many. And this is lauded to this day . A filthy murderous organised crime unit, denied in public but deep down much loved . A unit who slaughtered our people All this in the name of independence Is that what we need Killy? Blood on the streets.? Modern? You highlight matters from 600 years ago .

Swansea city centre on 18:46 - May 23 with 1177 views | johnlangy | A couple of points. When people like me have made the argument in the past that the finances in an Indy Wales would be far better than people imagine many responders asked why, if that was the case, have Plaid not carried out an investigation into the economy as it would be and published the numbers. Then Plaid did just that. The investigation was carried out by Professor John Doyle of Dublin University. And the same people who had asked that the report be done just dismissed the findings. They made no argument as to why they dismissed the report. They didn't even have to read the report. There was an easy to follow youtube video created explaining the numbers. And not one person came back and said that they had watched the video and then provided an argument against what it showed. Not one. Then there's the regular argument about Civil Service jobs that would be lost. Depts like DVLA, HMRC, the Passport Office are regularly referenced. Many people argue that almost all of those jobs would go because those people would end up in an English version of DVLA for example. But they never refer to the jobs being done in all the departments based in England that are being done on behalf of Wales. Those jobs would come back to Wales in place of the jobs lost. As far as I have been able to work out there are about 30,000 Civil Service jobs in Wales. If you do a simple calculation and say 5% of the Civil Service as a whole are doing jobs for Wales that would equate to 25,000 jobs. It's hardly scientific but it gives you an idea that even if jobs are lost they won't just all disappear as suggested. On two occasions in other threads felix said that 100,000 government jobs would go and he referenced the same departments as above. I asked both times if he would explain where these 100,000 jobs are. He didn't answer either time. So i'll ask again felix. Please explain.

Surely the ratio though of civil service jobs (especially something like the DVLA) in Wales whereby a service is provided for people from England and Scotland is astronomically higher than the reverse. Surely the gulf in population difference would mean that’s the case. Happy to be pointed towards a proper assessment of that though if there is one.

Absolutely. If some intellectual writes a thesis it's their opinion which obviously is open to debate. It's their opinion only, which some may agree with, many will dispute.. I would say the ratio of DVLA job loses would be a phenomenal deficit. Hospitals , people coming from both sides of the border to work. Hard border , soft border. A load of conundrums. As was pointed out by a civil servant on the other site. When Labour wins the next election support for the nationalists will fall.

It's not. It's a Labour voting town first and foremost. With a sprinkling of Conservativism. Talk about being blind. You're the most blinkered, not particularly bright poster on here. If it were a so called Indy town Plaid ( the party of independence) would be romping all the elections. 6000 marching. It's not particularly great is it. I recall the most industrialised ,Anglo parts of Swansea ,like Townhill,Penlan!portmead being not on entirely English speaking but highly indifferent to an independent Wales. These people are street wise, smart and free from sentimental crap that we see with Indys.

What I mean cockett is that the Welsh population is 5% of the UK meaning that 95% is the population of the rest. So only about 200 jobs at DVLA (4000 employees there ?) would be doing Welsh stuff and the other 3,800 would perhaps end up in a different place in England or Scotland after indy. That's the likely outcome. But that's 200 out of just the 4000 at DVLA. There are so many CS departments not based in Wales and a number of the people working there would be doing 'Welsh' work. And as the CS in total employs approaching 500,000 i've just done a simple calculation on population to arrive at 25,000. As I said, it's not scientific but it gives an aproximation of numbers.
