Teams within UEFA are currently bound by FFP so how can you let teams into competitions who do not operate under the same rules?

Game's already almost gone, this nonsense would finish it. Wouldn't mind seeing Chelsea relocate to Saudi Arabia tho tbf.

Except it wasn't for "footballing reasons", it was entirely political, in that other Arabic/Muslim teams were refusing to play against Israel, especially after 1974, such that Israel eventually had no alternative but to apply to UEFA. (They had even played in Oceania for a bit!)

This Wiki page gives a reasonably summary:

(Btw, this is not a comment either way on the propriety of Israel's membership of UEFA, though I have to say, a trip to Tel Aviv a few years back remains one of my favourite international aways of all time)

P.S. I would heartily recommend people read up on Israel's qualification campaign for the 1958 World Cup - I once had to cite it to quieten a couple of Taffs who were getting a bit mouthy about their lovely boyos' World Cup exploits:

Thanks for posting NewBee, I had no idea. Although the disaster was terrible, Jimmy Murphy was very fortunate that day.
