VAR in the EFL on 18:17 - Dec 20 with 540 views | numptydumpty | VAR was meant to quickly and efficiently review, analyse and decide on refereeing errors. It was said to only review clear and obvious errors. It has not been implemented as such. The idiot referee and the two idiot assistant referees are backed up or kept in check by the technology - however there is another panel of three idiots looking over the visuals that VAR gives and they then make a decision after many minutes and then they ask the referee who made the decision in the first place to go to a TV screen to see if he was wrong or not, so in effect the decision is still made by the referee on the pitch, by which time some of the crowd have gone for a pee, some have purchased a pukka pie they didnt want and the others are all looking at where they are currently in the league table on their phones. The passion of the moment passes whether its a goal, its disallowed, its a penalty or not, or its a red card or otherwise !!!! Technology has the capabilities to be instantaneous these days. Its not difficult. Having three more idiots up there overlooking , increases the chances of human error as opposed to eradicating it. Its blatantly obvious if someone is offside. Tennis had hawkeye for line calls - decades ago. So an offside is easily resolved immediately. If VAR was simply automated and instant - no issues with that, but it is not. And clear and obvious error, well a toe nail offside or a missed foul thirty seconds earlier - clearly they are not clear and obvious errors. The way VAR operates now it should be binned worldwide. it has the capabilities to be a succesful, quick and useful addition to the game. Currently the worldwide verdict of fans, players and coaches alike is that VAR is an Ass !! However, the officious rule makers like it as it gives them all the power and they become the game when they truly are not !!! If I and many others can see this - why cant those in supposedly higher places see this. As others have said, VAR in its current guise, can do one... But it really isnt that hard to implement it correctly - surely ??? Administrators ruining the game for their own self importance.... [Post edited 20 Dec 18:20]

VAR in the EFL on 09:22 - Dec 21 with 331 views | Clive_Anderson | I hate the change to the offside law, if the forward was an inch ahead with one body part but 99% level with the defender in the past that was always just described as "level". There was a level of tolerance build in and no one complained if a toe was just "offside". As mentioned it robbed Coventry last season, on the BBC text it said "AND THAT'S PROBABLY THE GREATEST GOAL IN THE HISTORY OF THE FA CUP!", followed by "Ah fck" when it was ruled out.

Exactly. Has there ever been something that's sucked more joy out of a game's most glorious moments than VAR? I don't think so. And for what? As you point out, to spot that a toe was offside. That wasn't what the offside rule was created to do in the first place. There can be few players, managers, supporters and, I'd even wager, refs that think VAR enhances a game of football. Why is football continuing to put up with it? [Post edited 21 Dec 10:55]

VAR in the EFL on 12:47 - Dec 21 with 133 views | lassel | As others have said, the key issue with VAR revolves around offsides and the laughable idea that a nerd in a room with a tv camera 100 yards from the play can pinpoint the exact moment contact is made with the ball, and the millimetre the attacking and defending players ‘active zone’ starts and ends. They can’t. It’s bullshit and it leads to the farce of players running at 25mph being ruled ‘objectively’ 1mm offside. VAR works in cricket as they’re not so arrogant as to believe they can say 100% whether a ball will nick the stumps or miss when there is a few mm in it and so they stick with ‘umpires call’ If football just accepted they’re not omnipotent savants and built in onfield call for super tight decisions, life would be much easier. You can still do the bullshit production of pretending you can tell when the pass was made, you still get to play with Microsoft Paint for Beginners, you just accept fallibility.
VAR in the EFL on 13:05 - Dec 21 with 114 views | supahoopsa | Very simple and very cheap solution to VAR offside checks is to make the line they draw 2 or 3 times wider That would stop the big toe debate as if you're over the wider line then you're definitely offside.
