John Mayall RIP

Sad to read that John Mayall has died, aged 90. An iconic figure of the British blues scene. This was one of the earliest albums I listened to.

Jimmy Dunne

I'm wondering about Dunne's place in the team this coming season. With the signings of Morrison and Santos he has more competition at both CB and RB. That, coupled with Cifuentes style of play not really suiting Dunne's skill set, will he now be mainly played off the bench?

Jimmy was a bit of a hero last season. Will he have the same opportunity this season?

Brian Eno

Just seen the documentary film, Eno. If you like Eno, do try and see it. It's an absolute treat and hugely enjoyable.

The film uses a computer program to select footage and edit the film so that a different version is shown each time it is screened. The New York Times gave an estimate of 52 quintillion possibilities. That's so Brian Eno!

No, not mum, dads, brothers, sisters, etc. The 60s/70s prog rock band. I'm currently listening and re-listening to their '68 album "Music in a Doll's House" and find myself knocked out by it all over again. I was utterly fascinated with this album as a teen in the good old days, particularly when on the wacky.

Is anyone else on here a fan of this stupendous band?

Earworms
at 09:16 1 Jun 2024

With so many music heads on here, I'm wondering if there are some who, like me, have constant earworms; that is songs always playing in their heads?

My current earworm is Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips which I've had for several days. I don't mind too much as it's such a great song.

What's yours at the moment?

Ben Williams

I don't think this is a Spackman but just listened to a very interesting interview with Head of Performance, Ben Williams https://shows.acast.com/the-r-insights-pod/episodes/episode-4-behind-the-scenes-

He's a bit jargonistic but nonetheless clearly knows his stuff. Although he quite rightly declines to go into too much detail on specific players, e.g. JCS, we do learn a fair bit about his approach to player performance.

It feels like there's a triumvirate of Cifuentes, Nourry and Williams who are breathing new life into our club. And very welcome it is too.

Probably nothing in it but there are a few not there. Chair must be taking the photo or Colback is standing on him.

Premier League Abuse

I think this article has it about right. Yes, I know if we got promoted to the PL it could, if we dealt with it in the right way, transform our financial position (dream on, you might say). However, as this article suggests, it would be like a short marriage to someone very wealthy but also violent, arrogant and abusive.

Would I take the misery of playing in the PL? Yes, for the sake of the club, through gritted teeth and just for a season before returning to the Championship.

Chel*** supporters say club is a โ€˜laughing stockโ€™
at 18:30 20 Mar 2024

Chelsea are facing more supporter dissent after being warned that a slide towards โ€œirreversible toxicityโ€ in the stands is likely to end in protests against the ownership. In a letter sent to Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali this month, the Chelsea Supportersโ€™ Trust cited concerns about higher ticket prices, the cost of merchandise and travel to games and a lack of communication from the board.

The CST, which said Chelsea had โ€œbecome a laughing stock on and off the pitchโ€ since being bought by Boehly and Clearlake Capital in 2022, pointed to anger and frustration over a sense that supporters are being used to raise revenue streams.

Ken Paal
at 08:52 9 Feb 2024

Paal is a bit of an unsung hero. Granted he's not great at set pieces but neither is Chair. Paal's season rating on say WhoScored.com, is only just below Chair's suggesting he's been our second most consistent player. And, he's weighed in with more than his fair share of goals, including that one v Huddersfield.

I reckon our dutchie on the left hand side deserves a bit more recognition. Well done Ken. Keep it going.

He's a very interesting guy with a bit of a different approach to the game. I like that he started coaching at a young age and has gone through some tough times. I'm glad we've got him.

I don't usually like this stuff but...

Let's have a song you love from a music genre you don't.

As a young 'un I listened to this classic by the velvet fog, Mel Torme, over and over again. Heard it again recently and it still does it for me even though I don't usually go for crooner type stuff. Love the organ solo.
