German Football 21:55 - Apr 1 with 2286 views | Landshark | Armenia Bielefeld just beat Bayern Leverkusen in the Semi final of the German equivalent of the FA Cup to reach the final. Bielefeld are a 3rd division team, Leverkusen are the reigning league and Cup champions. They beat 4 Bundesliga teams on the way to the final. Fairytale stuff.

German Football on 12:00 - Apr 2 by Clive_Anderson | German football is great, good fan culture, terracing, beer at football, massive crowds and great atmosphere. Then Bayern Munich win the league 90% of the time |
Agree with all that, except the "massive crowds". A few years ago Bundesliga crowds were noticeably bigger than PL crowds, both overall and average per match. But that was because English PL crowds were restricted by capacity constraints (Taylor Report, all-seater, old grounds etc). But the PL has caught up and will surely overtake the BL, as 2023/24 figures show: BL - 12,083,936 Total (18 clubs) = 39,490 Ave; PL - 14,661,755 Total (20 clubs) = 38,584 Ave. Those figures for the PL incl Luton (Ave 11,244), while next season Everton will move from 39k capacity to 55k and Fulham have since expanded, while Citeh and Palace (others?) are also expanding their grounds. While English football generally has FAR more depth, attendance-wise, when you go beyond the top tier, eg: BL2 - 7,349,506 (18 clubs) = 30,245 Ave; Chmp - 10,204,244 (24 clubs) = 21,944 Ave. For the 3rd tiers: BL3 - 3,384,904 (20 clubs) = 11.331 Ave; Lge1 - 4,661,047 (24 clubs) = 9,938 Ave. Below the 3rd tier, German football is regionalised/non-professional, so cannot have the depth of English football. While they have a population of 83m, rather wealthier, yet paying far lower ticket prices etc. But I'll stop now, before I go "Full Harry Redknapp"!

Yes they don't have anywhere near the lower league depth that we have and also have those ghastly second teams in their league system. I think they also have something of an image problem, just look at their kits. Here everyone knows Man Utd are red, Everton blue, Newcastle black and white stripes, we're blue and white hoops etc. Compare to German kits such as Eintracht Frankfurt, this season they are in white shirts with black and red trim. Last year it was black and red diagonal stripes, the year before all black with some red trim. They've also played in all white with black trim, black and white stripes, red and black stripes and many others: https://www.footballkitarchive.com/eintracht-frankfurt-kits/#2010s Come on you various combinations of white, black and reds. Even Bayern Munich played in white with red trim last season and had the same shirt as Crystal Palace a few years ago. Also a lot of the identity of clubs particularly in the East was messed about a lot, with mergers, name changes etc. And they have a club a few years old based on a fizzy drink as one of their biggest teams now. I think England is quite unique in that there are teams like Sunderland that won stuff years ago and have been pretty crap ever since, but they still get massive traditional support almost a century later.
German Football on 10:51 - Apr 3 with 284 views | stowmarketrange | I’ve been to Germany 3 times for football and I can’t wait to go back for a return.Even a friendly against FC Halle a few years ago had a brilliant atmosphere from the home fans. Cheaper prices and decent beer that you can drink in your seat. What’s not to like?

Hamburg (57,000) and Koln (50,000) or Kaiserslautern (49,780) may replace Holstein Kiel (15,000), Bochum (26,000) or Heidenheim (15,000) - taking current league standing

Fair point. As against that, eg Leeds, Sheff U and Sunderland replacing Ipswich, Leicester and Soton would add over 20k to the PL's capacity next season. And at considerably higher ticket prices, too.
