Sheehan - The Only Candidate 08:36 - Apr 11 with 2926 views | STID2017 | Seems to me Sheehan is doing an excellent job and should be tied to a contract before someone else lures him away The owners will do this shortly ... won't they ?

We need to take our time on this not rush in head first. We’ve got five games to go and we need to explore alternatives. There’s much fondness, understandably so for Sheehan but we can’t let that obscure our judgement. Conversely, we must make a decision more or less when the last kick of the season happens. I hope any alternatives have been evaluated or at least will be by the Ixford game. Please note, I’m not against Sheehan getting the job but we must be absolutely thorough in the evaluation process and the options we have before officially appointing. He’s going nowhere else I’m fairly confident of that. He may of course if not appointed permanently.

In spite of our off the field issues (see Keith's article today) there are always other candidates for the job However will we be able to afford the salary for anyone deemed a more suitable candidate? That is my concern Maybe it is just a box ticking / due diligence exercise to ensure they have the right guy ( and by coincidence probably the cheapest option )

I’d like to think if we can’t satisfy salary demands that we knock it on the head now NOT take all of the close season negotiating and failing just as the transfer window closes, the Swansea Way!

I have to agree but with a caveat that we never have had a better opportunity to watch a manager train a squad of player, pick a team using various selections and tactics all of which Sheehan has done quite admirably , he seems to have a squad who believe in him and the way he works ,plays the way he wants them to and not forgetting in a league he has experience in either as a manager or coach . Myself let him prove him self by not easing off and look to win the remaining matches regardless of us being safe, then by then we'll know for definite because as has been shown all too frequently picking managers from lower leagues hasn't really worked .

Well it's his second spell and the results are very similar. Also 11 games is hardly rushing in. I'd give him a go, he's already been better than LW. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You have to question why he has not been given the job. If Sheehan had not agreed to stand in we would have employed someone permanently by now. This taking our time to find the best candidate is BS. IMO we have sauced someone and have given them until the end of the season to decide if they want to come. If this is the case I don't want them, you either want to come or not. Sheehan is doing an excellent job and wants it, give it to him now.
Sheehan - The Only Candidate on 08:53 - Apr 12 with 1104 views | magicdaps10 | He's doing a good job but we need to still assess him over the next 5 games. My fear is the club farthing over a permanent appointment after the seasons finish. They need to make their mind up and a manager on a contract as quickly as they can once the season finishes.

They're quick enough to make staff redundant but I suppose that's easy when it costs a pittance in the first place .If the stories are true that's he's been previously approached by bigger Clubs I wonder just how long he's prepared to wait.

Surely if it were a solid interest then he would be off. I think that has been filtered in to certain quarters to highlight his pedigree if he gets the job on a full time basis so fans think "WOW"

As a coach. There are very few, if any coaching positions bigger than Swansea City manager. He’ll wait five games.

What I don't get is he had offers at and around the time things were looking bleak for Williams....he had no means of knowing he would be asked to stepping again or if a new head coach/manager was due especially with the new ownership. So I'm surprised he didn't take one of those. For me yes he has done a great job but there are still a few questions marks. I don't understand selecting Cullen against the team of giants Derby were, bringing in Fulton when we are 3 nil up against a very poor Plymouth...Sheehans predecessor would have been pilloried for doing the same...and not subbing Vip for Cullen who would have converted those chances.

So what do you think he needs to do over the next five matches, that he has not done up until now to cement his position. He has already shown that he can galvanise a squad and is tactically astute to tailor his tactics to nullify and beat the opposition on a game by game basis. What more unless you want to win every game until the end of the season, do that and he won't be our manager.

I think the substitutions against Plymouth were with today's starting line up in mind. Those who came off will have a prominent role today, with Cullen and Delcroix starting. Let's wait and see.

Well my opinion and it will certainly vary from others I am sure. He was brought in to keep us up and done a job over an 8 match run. He needs to keep that run going until his contract runs out at the end of the season and keep the players on their toes and not let standards drop. We could go on a run of 5 games without win or even without victory and that would wipe out the good work from the previous 8 games and avoid the knee jerk reaction on what he achieved on the previous 8 games. He needs to be judged over the entirety of his contract and there are still 5 games to go. He is certainly in a position to take it if his record continues in the next 5 games.

How many points over the next 5 games to keep the run going, we have lost matches under Sheehan, so what does he need to do. Keep the run going is very vague.

What if he doesn't keep this run going? We have 3 very tough away games and 2 tough home games where I can't see us getting much at the aways but if we play as well as we have been doing I can see us getting draws at the away games and possible wins at home. Even though we are 9pts from relegation we aren't mathematically safe, so I expect sheehan and the squad to bust a gut until we are and even when it does happen I think he and they will still give 100% because it's in his DNA.

What if we wait til seasons end and Sheehan gets an offer that he takes becaue our owners have prevaricated? And then what if the "non UK" person or people we are thjinking about don't want the gig? We could end up with a thrid choice cheapoption with little knowledge of and no experience of the Championship. This is Sheehans second spell and the results are very similar. Those results if multiplied over a season put us clise to the play offs. Why doesn't Sheehan deserve it on current evidence? Put another way, if we give the job to someone else they are starting from scratch, no knowledge of the players, the set up or the club and its fans, Sheehan has all of that in spades and he's is so obviousky popular too. Wait too long and we could lose him, it seems silly to me.
