The new manager should already be here today was a roll of the dice by up stairs to see if the caretaker would work again. This squad is looking like bottom 3 candidates.
For the current 2025-2026 season, Marítimo FC, managed by Vítor Matos (appointed July 1, 2025), generally employs a flexible, possession-based, and attacking style of play. The team's tactics emphasize controlling the midfield and utilizing dynamic, fluid movement, particularly in wide areas, to create scoring opportunities. Key aspects of Marítimo's playstyle include: Formation Flexibility: While specific formations can vary, the style of play suggests a system (possibly a variation of a 4-3-3 or a system with a back three) that allows for easy transitions between defense and attack, creating overloads in different areas of the field. Midfield Dominance: The system relies on technical midfielders to control the game's tempo and link defense to attack effectively, aiming to win the midfield battle. Wide Play: Intelligent full-backs are essential to overlap and support the wide forwards, stretching the opposition defense and providing an extra attacking dimension with crosses and passes. High Pressing: The team appears to utilize an aggressive high press to win the ball back quickly in the opposition's half, leveraging player movement to disrupt the opponent's build-up play. Attacking Fluidity: A key characteristic is the ability of forwards and midfielders to interchange positions and make unpredictable runs, making it difficult for defenses to track them. The club currently competes in the Liga Portugal 2. For the most up-to-date performance data and statistics, you can check the team's results and standing on Soccerway or

What if he doesn't?
Will you turn on him?
Probably.
You have done with the last 4.
To be fair the last few mangers have all hit that point where the fan base hate them mate. Last one I was genuinely gutted to see leave was Steve Cooper. Luke done the West Brom thing had to go , russ wanted out in the end , Alan Sheehan was over his head class caretaker mind , Duff was terrible. Out of them I think Russ was the only one that really divided opinions tbh.
Matos must have time now his stats are impressive reading them it looks like his teams are blood and thunder. Not afraid to get stuck in . Patients is needed ripping the system down and starting in the middle of the season will be tough.
We have done the usual, sacked the manager, fans feeling he has done nothing with high quality purchases. Oh and doesn't know his best team, and makes all the wrong substitutions (always a fun one this, important as it is, how it becomes a defining point for a manager I never understand)
Now I'm reading those purchases were not high quality and we have players stealing a living, but also (yesterday) showing glimpses of quality? Do we objectively know whether they are high quality or not?
A second choice manager clearly not filling us with confidence, so the owners now about to get it again. Because the players were not quality at all and they couldn't replace Sheehan quickly enough even though they made a quick decision to remove, which was what people wanted.
You can't beat a football messageboard for confusion and football is so short term.
Which leads me to my only new point, if it is short term, and we need a few wins, this isn't time to be worrying about a project. Manager needs to make a sharp impact, a bit like Sheehan did ... and then didn't have the support for the 'project'. So this one will have his work cut out to keep fans onside!
Our league positions are getting broadly lower though, the stats in general don't lie ... is every season a slightly more desperate attempt to reverse the decline?

I mentioned yesterday that some of the brought in are not good enough. The recruitment team must share the blame for this mess.

In my opinion we have brought in some good individuals, a couple of very good players but we have not built a team. Sheehan was not able to blend these players into a half decent team. If Matos fails to do this we have to look deeper than the manager and back to recruitment. If Matos does indeed blend the players into a good team credit should be given to the recruitment system. Currently I can see massive flaws in some of the players we have bought, are they not up to championship football or has it been O'Dea and Sheehan.

We have bought a few decent players, a few bang average players, and a few absolute duds. We haven’t brought in enough decent players to move us from a mid table team, to a team that is going to challenge for promotion. Was it our aim to spend £20 million and stay mid table?
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

You could be right The preseasons showed we were unbalanced and our tactics were dubious So it’s proved The loans have proven a waste whilst lads like Widdell and Ealrs have been given little chance When Widdell has played, he’s looked dynamic Why he’s been ignored is staggering We have a plethora of CHs but lack defending full backs Basic stuff really
I’m fearful , as I always am, as I’ve doubted the last four coaches virtually from the off , but like you and all of us , I’m hoping Matos does the remarkable Things can change though and quickly
We need to play our strongest 11 more often,we’ve seen too much chopping and changing with Sheehan and that’s been a problem,I know it’s a long season but he stuck with the same back four but chopped and changed everywhere else ,rarely picking our best 11

That to me is the biggest issue , we are now down to two players who should feel a greater affiliation with the Club than the rest Cullen & Cabango , the rest just players who are just that and imo we are not a team willing to run that yard quicker or make that tackle a bit harder ,for what ,they still get paid and will continue to do so until their next Club. We've been blessed in recent years with players coming through the Academy but thats dried up at present so what else is there .even the Chef who's a Jack now peddles his wares in cardiff. I still can't judge whether the players brought last summer are good enough and I doubt whether AS could hence the lack of consistency ,well positive consistency .

Ironically, the hospitality chef is called Curtis. Yes, he was in the Alan Curtis lounge! Unfortunately gone to them up the road as 1st team chef. The staff are employed by Constellation, the same as them up the road, Birmingham, Leicester etc. They are the ones who moved him.

One crumb of hope to grasp onto is that every season there’s always one team in this league that looks completely abject at the start, changed their manager then goes on a surge out of nowhere.

The problem is mate Casey and SS will have clauses in the loan deals. SS especially has looked amazing in the cup games and deserved a chance as did Casey.
Benson is a head scratcher to be honest he hasn’t really had a chance to shine.
Our strongest 11 is still up for debate
3 at the back with the winger’s doesn’t seem to work. Wasn’t it Russ that was sticking with the 5 at the back thing when he changed it we started rolling?
The two up top would be interchangeable keep Vipi as our starting no 9 all day Drop the other striker to an attacking mid where eom/culls/Widell could play. Or we drop Stammy into the defensive midfield area then it is only Cullen that could take the other spot next to Franco. Liams work rate is amazing to be fair he is one of the most underrated players in the league.
4 at the back with fullbacks not this wing back nonsense. I am sick and tired of seeing Tymon or key gets forward fluffs the cross turn over. Or the Ronald key interchange that is so predictable it is sad. If key was kept defending with Galbraith in the team they can swap over pretty well and key does push through well in the middle now and again.
We are in for real football you can see judging by this why he has been selected. One of the goals here could have easily been Ronald and Vipi linking up.

Let’s hope that’s us this year.
When Steve Cooper was at forest is the best example I can think of there mate.
