1982 and all that… 09:52 - Dec 18 with 675 viewsMrSheen

A colleague has been staying with his mother while she recovered from an operation. While he was there, he cleared out his old bedroom and found a programme for the 1982 Cup Final. He has no idea how he got it as he was never interested in football (he grew up near Harlow, so maybe they gave them away in schools), so he kindly gave it to me - I lost mine decades ago.

As well as coverage of the teams - I hadn’t realised Tottenham’s first four opponents in the cup that year were Arsenal, Leeds, Villa and Chelsea, whereas ours were Boro, Blackpool, Grimsby and Palace - it’s a wonderful time capsule, particularly the ads. As well as full pages from John Player Special, Marlboro and Embassy, there are some startling price differences on display from today: 11 nights watching England’s group games in the World Cup, including flights, hotels and match tickets - £235. A copy of FIFA’s 1974 World Cup film, “Heading for Glory” (VHS or Betamax) - £31, plus £1 p&p.

I kept mine and have tried to ensure its in pristine condition. I wonder what it's worth, today.

I’ve got a programme for the Saturday game, a programme for the Thursday replay, and a signed glossy travel brochure of the Caribbean Cruise Spurs gifted referee Clive White for his good services.

An old family friend gave me his 1967 programme before he past, and I have both programmes and my tickets from 1982; all in good condition.

As for the 1986 charity shield....

I still have approx 1 sq metre of the Astro, complete with Gary’s skin grafts and Ricky Hill’s spittle as he always hugged the touchline by the paddocks.

Reckon it’s worth a least one goal from a long throw.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

that bloody ref, mr white grrrrrrrrrr from the cup final. but the replay galls me to this day, stainrod was injured , flat out away from goal we score from micklewhite, stainrod ruled offisde no goal. later our player is fouled in the box, we were pushing and running spurs ragged , linesman flags and puts it across his chest to signal penalty, ref waves him away, won't go to him and plays goes on, qpr swamp ref when they can. nightlife robbery .

Football is corrupt, and we were cheated, end of. Spurs looked virtually ashamed to be picking up the trophy. If I'd have been captain, I'd have handed it back.
