| Best Chippy 11:58 - Jan 10 with 1914 views | jack_lord | Went to buy Fish and Chips in Dick Bartons last night and large cod was £11.50. 3 with chips would have been 45 quid. It got me wondering what the best Chippy in the Swansea area was, are they better value and how do I keep them warm when I'm travelling back? | |

| Best Chippy on 12:32 - Jan 10 with 1415 views | Demitrius | Put them in the passenger footwell and stick the heater on for the drive home... £11.50 though....That's London & SE prices I used to love coming home because everything was so much cheaper - beer, eating out, shopping etc... but not anymore. I noticed it after Covid - everything had shot up in price. | |

yep, though checked online and Hiks is 9.75 for large cod and is supposed to be really good. one of my mates said Codbox is good as well. I travel through Swansea on way home so any good chippy is worth a look at. You can have a massive Chinese meal for the same cash.

Back on the sixties , it was a meet place for us posers who had cars It was dear then probable two bob for a fish dipped on axle grease They served them in a plastic box with a wooden fork , which was rather pretentious but it kept one’s fingers free of grease which was essential if you were a fussy tw@t like me who was car mad We had a break in Hexham last year and went to a Classic Car meet There was a Hillman Minx series 3 there , immaculate in BRG And yes , I had a quiet blub Bluddy Swansea and it’s memories never leave you

I do have fond memories of summer afternoons eating on the lawn outside Dick Bartons with so many other families. The queue of traffic coming back from Caswell and Langland was immense.

| Best Chippy on 01:26 - Jan 11 with 1011 views | Robbie | Ron Evans Pies in Taibach for the real rissole and pies from back in the day taste wise . Over the counter service and the front of house staff , really good pricing too . I normally go to my local chippy if in a rush , £3.80 for a large bag of chips , trade costs . That portion of chips will last over two days , micro necessary on the follow up meal . To eat that lot freshly cooked with the advice I had an eight minute wait for the chips . Really not a problem for the quality I recieved , piping hot and really done the lob . | | | |

Don’t get me wrong. Nothing wrong with Dick Bartons chips at all. It’s also a kind of Swansea institution, which I like. I just prefer Copperfish. It’s more of a gourmet chip shop than a traditional one. More of a treat than a regular.

I used to go to Sweetmans for a pastie then Covelli's for the chips. I lived so close to Johnnies that they kept me alive for a good while. Hardly eat chips these days so it is good to know what is great out there and with my current job I am in the position to swing by them on the way home. I regularly forget about the Copperfish so thanks for the reminder. I went to Penaluna's in Hirwaun a few years ago and indeed it was good.

Agree with both. Rissole & chips 9 pence (old money) in Johnny's. I bet there's not many on here that remember old money.
