UK NET IMMIGRATION 17:54 - Jan 12 with 829 viewsjohnlangy

ONS figures on net migration into the UK show that the numbers in the year to June 2025 fell to 204,000 compared with the record of 944,000 to March 2023. You'd imagine this would be a huge cause for celebration among the millions of people who have been so concerned about the numbers.

You would imagine that if people are so concerned about immigration they'd be interested enough to check out the facts.

Bearing that in mind, can any of you explain why it is that when asked by pollsters 67% believe that the numbers have increased while the percentage of Reform voters who believe it has risen is 80%.

So again, can any of you explain why those people aren't interested in facts ? It appears that they simply believe what they believe and don't want facts getting in the way of those beliefs ?

The key word is "net".

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

We had about 800,000 people arrive last year.

The 200,000 net figure resulted from Sunak's policy so no one in Government wants to talk about it.

Record emigration is distorting the figures. There is no need to ask why they are leaving, delve deeper and it is skilled workers.

The decrease in overall numbers is good news, but there are also negative aspects. As well as higher emigration, the figures show:

Near-record number of irregular arrivals.
Rising numbers of asylum family reunification visas.
Fewer skilled worker visas.

The proportion of total arrivals likely to make a net fiscal contribution appears to be falling.

I’m unsure if it’s lawful net migration that a lot are on about.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

I think today’s figures are a welcome step in the right direction, we’re not where I’d like us to be, but I think these figures are a big improvement on previous year’s numbers. There’s more work to be done to reign the figures in and get high caliber of the people coming, but the numbers are coming down.

British citizen emigration peaked in 2021 at 283,000, it then hovered around todays figure for the last 4 years. The number of returning Brits increased by 83,000 up to 143,000. What is noticeable is that EU citizen emigration is increasing as more lave the country.

There’s more work to be done, but things are much moving forward. The current government have further tightening criteria’s up, increased the length people have to wait for particular status, introduced a ban on DRC citizens obtaining visas (and proposed similar moves against other countries and increased removals. It’s not all rosy in the garden, but it’s better than it’s been for a while with hopefully more to come.

Correct Major. And the numbers are projected to drop quite substantially more in 2026.

On the Forth Capital figures, I have an old eork colleague who works in Westminster who tells me that the Non Dom changes are having a negative impact, he wouldn't give me the numbers, he's usually forthcoming so I guess it's a problem.

If you said about 15 years ago that then economic basket cases like Portugal and Greece would be among the top places for emigrating investors to relocate to and the UK the worst in 2025 they would have thought you a nutjob.

They bore their collective pain, learnt painful political & economic lessons and have emerged stronger for it. Sadly I think with the muppet show we have in charge the real pain is yet to come and we haven't hit the bottom of the curve yet as this depressing article in the Telegraph illustrates...
