Turned 60 earlier this month. Nothing to it, birthdays always just a number to me, and although I've been semi-retired since 2021, fully since last December, didn't really batter an eyelid with it. That was until yesterday.
In 1984, I opened a bank account. A few years later I signed some forms while working for ITV for a few years. Yesterday, I received a payment into that account I opened as a teenager entitled: ITV Pension.
Then it hit me: F..k me, I am a pensioner!
Seriously, where the hell have those last 42 years gone and why has life only given me secondary level silverware with QPR and not (yet) the really good stuff?

I have been mostly relaxed and sanguine about ageing but this week I've had a wobble.... I was unable to start my petrol mower, just couldn't yank the cord violently enough so had to grab the neighbour who's half me age and looks like, and is built like Thor. He nonchalantly pulled the ripcord and fired it up. I've been left with a sense of feebleness and advancing decrepitude all week.
I will cure it by buying a big top-of-the-range cordless Stihl mower. I'll hold fire on the ride-on version til I'm 70 though. [Post edited 1 May 12:51]
