With me it’s wrestling. Anyone mentioning haystacks brings me right back. As does too much butter on your bread. Or that white china with the light blue rings on it and candlewick bedspreads. If anyone hasn’t been to the Black Country museum, do go. Anyone 50s upwards is almost bound to be struck by some kind of parent/grandparent memory…
loved the wrestling... if qpr were away and i couldnt go, or it was out of season, always around me nans house. loved the royal brothers, giant haystacks, big daddy, and his brother....the ref. adrien street, who lived not too far from us. plenty of others.....the goodies and the baddies. loved it mostly for the football results that used to flash up on the screen during the wrestling.....forgot les kellet.
I loved my gran, dad's mum, dearly. She was a strong but lovely lady who took no nonsense. Her husband, my grandad, had run off with another woman at some stage when my dad was little so I never knew him. She used to tuck you into bed so tightly you couldn't move, there was always a little bowl of sweets next to the bed when you woke up and the only music I remember was her humming this tune as she went around the house

Haha yep. We also religiously watched the football results because of the football pools. Another part of the ritual became one day nanny’s ship was going to come in!
