Yes spurs came up with us in 1977/78 after both teams just played out a friendly draw at The Dell to enable both teams to go up to the First Division so they have been top league since 1977/78 . I was there. |

Yes that’s right I remember it being a very hot day like today and Spurs had the whole Archers Road end . A very dull game but both teams got their reward. I remember the saints players coming out into top of the west stand at the end to celebrate promotion with the fans. |  |

If I remember correctly the Spurs game was the first time fences had been put in at the Archers Rd end and the whole terrace was given over to the Spurs fans who proceeded to demolish the whole of the barriers near the end of the game. | | | |

Now you mention it I seem to remember that third Everton goal, it looked like the keeper dived over the ball to let it run underneath him into the net. That’s without trying to find it online.
Oh yes, no mobiles… Our only friend was our portable transistor radio but what with the dodgy medium wave signal and the obvious noise inside the stadium that was hit and miss at best. Then if someone with a signal and a little earpiece on a wire got some news it would spread like the verbal equivalent of a Mexican wave. Very different times to the i-phone enabled generation we have now. |
I think that Everton win over Wimbledon was extremely questionable. I met a barrister who cross examined him and to put it mildly it seems Segers was something of an ‘unreliable witness’ in a football corruption trial. Compared to our recent misdemeanour this was an issue a thousand times worse. |  |
