My youngest is doing the bridesmaid bit at a wedding on the Gold Coast. She'll be staying there and visiting the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. Any recommendations for bars / restaurants / events / etc etc. She's 28, well travelled, no shrinking violet?
Point of order...although they say they were overlooked in Britain, they wasn't quite true. The media may have blanked them, but if I recall correctly 4 out of 5 of their original presses were purchased by UK residents, which was a driving force in them continuing as a band. I'm sure the music peeps on here will correct or add to my recollections.
I was in Brisbane for a few days in March. Would recommend South Bank Parklands and there's plenty of bars and restaurants around it. Ate at Ma Pa Me and El Camino Cantina, both of which were fine. Also Felons Brewery bar/restaurant on Howard Smith Wharves by the big Story Bridge was good. Would also recommend the free entry rooftop Sky Deck bar at the Star Hotel, opposite side of the river overlooking the South Bank Parklands. Didn't go to Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast but have heard Noosa is nice. If she has time to go further north, can recommend a trip to K'gari (Fraser Island) but go on an organised trip or with someone who knows the island because you need a 4x4 vehicle with low tyre pressure to get around and wild dingos live on the island.

Echo Bath's comments on South Bank. Use the Bluey catamaran to get around, 50 cents a ride ! We stayed on Gold Coast between Surfers Paradise (lively) and Broadbeach (more refined) and loved it. Also did an organised rainforest, kangaroos and waterfalls tour which was brilliant- PM me if you want details.

Yeah, all public transport is 50 cents a ride (about 25p) in Brisbane (and maybe further out too) so it's a great way to get around.
