I doubt that Wigan has produced many decent bands etc. However, it is very famous for its Northern Soul, but i haven't a clue what Northern Soul actually is, so if anybody knows, can they put up some 'stuff'?

Noticed during the Wigan game on TV the other night that they played Frank Wilson 'Do I Love You' at half time as the teams left the field.
Whilst Wigan Casino was a shithole, it was just a brilliant place to be. TBH it would probably never have worked in a chrome plated disco as it was a 'salt of the earth' working class scene. The very fact that Northern Soul still has an active scene over 40 years on from the Twisted Wheel days (pre Wigan) shows how it has stood the test of time.
Sorry, can't recall how you do links, but the clips on the above are of young people doing Northern Soul dancing for a film to be made later this year. Filmed in London.

xray soul club has a monthly night at The Bell on Middlesex Street (Liverpool Street station). Not a bad night actually, although quite a few onlookers who didn't take the plunge and join in the dancing the last time I went.
There's a few other places in London that do occasional events too.
btw Wigan Casino was named "Best Disco in the World" by Billboard magazine.
