In comparing the suburb of Brentford to the capital of West London, I think of first: 1) A leisure pool with a great wave machine 2) A drive thru McDonalds..and a 2) A football club...and that's it OK, Lime Grove baths and White City pool may have never have reached the heady heights of having a wave machine, but in terms of sport and culture, Shepherds Bush, by comparison has an impressive CV: Top 5 for Sport 1) QPR FC (for once the PA has his facts almost right, formerly Shepherds Bush FC) 2) Olympic Games 3) Olympic 100m Gold Medalist - Linford Christie 4) England's Football Captain - Stuart Pearce 5) England's Rugby Captain - Lawrence Dallaglio Top 5 for Music + Culture 1) Mods - Roger Daltrey, The Who, The Goldhawk Club, Quadrophenia 2) Punk - Glen Matlock, Jones, Cook and The Sex Pistols 3) Punk Rock - Mick Jones and The Clash 4) Disco - Goldhawk Rd was Nik Cohn's inspiration for Saturday Night Fever (of its time!) 5) Casual - Stuart's, the original go-to shop for 80's football casuals Bit harsh Robert Elms (being of W12 heritage) not making the top 5, but reckon Stuart Z deserves the nod, just for the memories of that shop on a Saturday afternoon! If the Pistols were formed in the 80's, they would never have had to contaminate themselves on the Kings Road.

I wonder what the area will be like when the riverside regeneration project is completed. Until recently I had a bit of a soft spot for the football team but find them insufferable now as do most on here.

Not as much as how well Mark Warburton is doing in transforming our club, reducing our wage bill, putting us on a sound financial footing, playing entertaining football that I don't mind crossing the country to watch, compared to our previous incompetents, none of whom have gone on to achieve anything anywhere.

Let me rephrase that. I find them insufferable as do most people on here. I don't find the folk on here insufferable !

What's on their new website ? I couldn't seem to find it. It used to be a great pub for ale - scruffy as they come but what the hell. I went in there before the latest lockdown and it was awful. Doubt if I'll ever go in there again.

It was some pub review website with pics showing how the Magpie and Crown had been ponciefied I left London a few years ago but still make it down occasionally for a match and to visit some pubs. Thank God I didn’t go there !
