Happened to catch 'The Big Match -revisited' today and featured Luton v QPR 1979.
Was surprised to see Bowles in #7 shirt and Currie in #10 - somehow I had forgotten that and would have staked a heck of a lot that Bowles left and Currie took over his shirt then but evidently not!
Anyone else think Stan only played at #10?

No, I remember that season that Docherty for some reason didn't give Stan the number 10. Early on in the season when Currie was injured Paul Goddard played 10 and then when TC was finally fit he got it. Stan that season wore 11 in his first game and thereafter 7 right up to his last game a 2-2 home draw with Wrexham.
What might have been with Stan & TC in the same team, unfortunately they only got to play in the same starting XI on six occasions and we didn't lose one of them (four wins, two draws).
My first away game with QPR, that stadium still not improved much since 1979, come to think of it ours hasn't either since 1981. Decent team that 79/80 one, Tommy Docherty made some very good signings Tony Currie, Chris Woods, Steve Wicks etc, we also had Clive Allen and Paul Goddard developing their young talents. Lack of consistency and fell away a bit mid season, but an exciting team to watch clobbered a few sides that season, especially at home.

Noticeable how many London clubs there were in the Second Division at the time: 7 if you include Luton and Watford (there were only 3 London clubs in the First Division: Palace, Arsenal, Tottenham).

only missed about 3 games that season, loved everything about it. think us and luton were first and second when that game was played, and one of the biggest away followings i've seen from us in those days. top scorers that season as well, so that was a bonus, even though we never went up, scoring 7 at home to burnley and beating them 3-0 away as well, shame it were'nt this season.....great times were just around the corner.
what a great club we are....you've just got to be patient.
Great thread. Was at the game aged 11. Friend's dad took us and few kids from our street, (he was Chelsea fan - think Osgood scored for them on his return to Chelsea that day as remember him turning up the Sport on 2 report on the car radio on the way home). Was rammed - 19,000 crowd. And I remember being terrified when a load of Luton skins got into the away end just before the game and chased us across the terrace.
