Yep, what do you reckon their punishment will be? I reckon that they'll be asked to pay more for their bribes going forward.

No way will they be given any meaningful punishment. I mean, their club is virtually bankrupt against these FFP "rules" yet like Citee, like Chelsea, they can do what the f they want.

Can we go out yet?

Given the Terry Venables and Mark Hughes connection, I’d be surprised if, in throwing the book at Barcelona, UEFA and the Spanish authorities don’t find a way to pin this on QPR.

So 18 of the 20 La Liga teams voiced their concern. What’s the betting that the only club that didn’t was Real Madrid? Would not be surprised in the slightest if they were doing the same thing.

Wouldn't it be brilliant if it turned out they were both paying off the ref for the game they face each other!?

The other club that didn’t was Real Madrid, but today they changed their mind apparently.

The thing is, La Liga don't have the power to take action over this matter (possibly because it is time-barred?), which is why one reason the other 18 clubs are so angry.

The good news, however, is that it is the Catalan state authorities who have acted, these being criminal indictments - fraud, false accounting, tax evasion etc - against both the club and named individuals.

I think I read that they were first alerted by a tax investigation into the company owned by the refereeing chief, through which the suspicious Barca payments were made.

Meanwhile in other news, Barca have just pulled out of a €1.5bn refinancing deal (with Goldman Sachs?), because they are worried about US interest rate rises. They're right royally fcuked, it would appear.

Loved Barcelona back in the day , great kit , great players , iconic stadium , for years they never had a sponsor and kept the same kit for years , unfortunately Saudi money fell into their hands and they are far away from the days of cruyff , Koeman, Sir Bobby, messi , Ronaldo , Ronaldinho, etc

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Me too, pp. I used to really love them for all the reasons you mentioned.

They're a sham now. Such a shame.

I suspect that Barcelona have their share of spin, cant and image management in their history, like many other clubs.

For instance, it is not widely known that the club awarded medals to Generalissimo Franco on three separate occasions - 1951, 1971 and 1974:

While many think the club's famous Chief Scout, Josep Semetier, used his personal influence with the dictator to be able to sign Laslo Kubala, the club's Player of the Century:

Certainly Kubala's Spanish citizenship was rushed through to allow him to play for Barca etc, in the same way as had been done for Di Stefano when he joined Real Madrid.
