We have achieved in last two seasons, in my eyes and there is reasons not to feel this is just the start.
We have changed our model completely and anyone that says they are not impressed with the squad we have currently managed to put together, is never ever going to be happy supporting QPR.
There are times for optimism and times for doom and gloom.
Its been said many times, but last season was a success in it being a building block. We would have finished in the top half easily if we hadnt used the last six games as preparation for this season ahead. The actual position you finish is half the story sometimes.
You could have an ageing squad with an incredibly dull team that grind out results or you could have a youthful team full of potential going into the next season. Thats where the achievement is currently. But more than that its a team with a bit of swagger, a bit of style and the ability to play decent football and with a backbone now also. Defence is much improved and depth is much improved.
We have had close to 60 attempts on goal in three games and only conceded two worldies in total also.
The fact no major sales have happened this season is we dont need to, sell someone for big money this season. Again thats incredibly impressive. We have only spent £650k this window and got a few big earners off the books. And we have massively improved our options in the problematic positions of last season. All our promising youth players that have needed loans have got them and decent ones too. We have moved youth players we feel wont make it here on with efficiency also.
We have been unbeaten in preseason and scored plentiful and apart from a penalty fiasco, we are in all reality still unbeaten since pre season started. Yes, its preseason but we normally have a few shocking results and performances in preseason. Yes we have played teams not expected to do well this season. Yet Charlton are top and West Ham and Burnley are both yet to win. Its early days yes and there are no certainties in football, but if we cant have any otimism now, we should all shut up shop and go home and do something more interesting instead....
Personally I see no reason why we can't be in a play off berth this season and also I imagine its certain we finish top half unless we coast again if play offs are not in the picture and we go back to experimenting for the following season.
The concern is injuries - however with our current depth, we should be able to cope and am hopeful we have learnt a lot of lessons with regards to overplaying certain players so that multiple injuries were inevitable. My view this season is we have started with players hitting the ground running which last season we were told half our squad was about a month behind where they should have been in terms of fitness.
Its early days in the season, but some times as fans we have to expect a lot more and think more along the lines that we are totally heading in the right direction. It doesnt happen very often for this club, but if we cant feel even a glimmer of optimism this season ahead, whats the point of supporting a football club unless preset doom is preferred. The building blocks are nearly all in place.
Its the overall plan that is actually working But if we are being entertained week in week out, for me thats great. Only three seasons ago we were playing the worst football I have ever witnessed at this club under Ainsworth with an ageing squad full of lightweights and there appeared to be no group cohesion and if we went behind, that was it game over and we were heading to long term obscurity in league one or worse.
We are in a much much stronger position than that particular nadir. Thats the achievement as is. But if we cant get excited about what lies ahead with this squad, manager and coaching team, we never will. The players actually seem to enjoy being here and also all seem to get on, which is always a key element in any team to make sure two plus two equals five.
I am looking forward to watching some decent players in our hoops this season and am hopeful and believe we will be entertained also.
If that is not an achievement then cant think what is.
Know the default on here is very guarded beliefs that it could all still go very wrong. It could but if there is still a default of pessimism today, its never going to be a pleasant experience following this club.

Although I'm impressed by our start, I feel a need to dampen the optimistic outlook by stating that, other than Millwall in the cuo, we haven't played any of the expected challengers.
