...s'pose I'll have long kicked the bucket before any interesting results come back.

Had the album but never seen this vid before, not sure I really go for the lead singer's attire. Astronomy.

They also sang about the first African American astronaut according to Chris Rock " There is a little black spot on the sun today "
Just a little Christmas humor and its not mine so all complaints or comments direct to the comedian

I'm afraid they were just making that up, we all know that there was only green soup and blue string pudding.

This is how the Earth looks from just outside our solar system so, the front door.

This is where we are in our Galaxy:
https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-2c4bda9942b655aaca6ca31716877f29

As you can see we are near the outer rim. Most heat will be in the centre where the major star clusters are. Just outside that there will be plenty of stars that won't push out radiation that kills everything. This is where one would expect life to be, you know ET. And they probably trade and do other ET things with other nearby ET's. So, why would they bother looking at the edge of the Galaxy where it's cold and probably far away from anything important?

In addition, most star systems are binary systems, unlike ours. Therefore ET would assume most life came from binary systems. And not bother with ours.

Then there is space, you know they call it space because well it's like a lot of space. A faster than light drive won't even get us to the next system quickly, assuming we can see where we are going (you need light for that) and that we have a force field so a speck of space dust does not wipe us out. All of which we don't have and won't for like hundreds of years.

So, to sum up ...

1) We are so far away from anything important in the Galaxy, that no one would want to come here and we cannot get there. ET won't bother.
2) We live in a single star system a place where no one would look for life as we are probably the exception to the rule. ET won't bother.
3) Even on our doorstep you can barely make us out and then the Earth is so small that probably nothing is on it anyway. ET won't bother.
4) And we have absolutely zero of anything of worth for ET to want to come here as ET can get it all elsewhere and probably easier and better. ET won't bother.

We shall never get to them and ET shall never bother coming here.
This is the reality of the situation.

On the upside we can continue with the "Witcher Boba Throne Wars" entertainment that will continue forever so, at least we can self-pleasure ourselves that it's all possible ... where ... err it isn't.

zzzzzzzzzz

Don't be so sure. I am working on FTL travel as we speak.

Just need to source some stronger elastic bands and we should be all set.

Can't we just fold 2 black holes closer together?

The grass is always greener.

If that's the view from the front of your house, I'd suggest you get a window cleaner.
