| The best football played by QPR. 19:29 - Dec 16 with 1899 views | Snipper | Following on from the worst football played by QPR, how about the best? One that springs to mind was Wolves at home on a bank holiday Monday in 97 or 98 I think. The first half we was on fire. We were 2-0 up, but it should’ve been 5-0. Wolves were flying at the time, and we were destroying them. Then they made a tactical change, and allowed them back into the match. It finished 2-2. | | | | |

Derby 2, QPR 4 under Jim Magilton. I believe we were 2-0 down but I was so relaxed and just knew we would still win
| The best football played by QPR. on 19:47 - Dec 16 with 1339 views | PlanetHonneywood | From early-1990 when Don Howe took over until when Gerry Francis left/was pushed in Nov. 94 IIRC. We played some delightful stuff, almost criminal that it never resulted in some silverware. Also the final season of Terry Venables was good. | |

One game from that era that sticks out…Monday night at home to Liverpool, we ripped them to shreds, Les was unplayable. But we didn’t score! Ronnie Rosental won it on the break with about two minutes left. Started to believe in a jinx. More recently, a minority view, but in the very brief Beale purple patch, we were like matadors with a gormless bull. [Post edited 16 Dec 21:42]

I was going to post about Howe's time as well, J. Not old enough to remember the 70's team properly, and I was in Ireland for Venables's reign, so Howe's team gets my vote. Superbly managed, superbly coached and a joy to watch.

I was going to suggest those mental ten games or so under Magilton where we couldn't be beaten and Agyemang was on fire. I was surprised to hear in every podcast those players have since been on, that he was incredibly unpopular. It was blown up in the most QPR way.

Good shout on the 1987. The opener at the Boleyn, we absolutely tore Wham! a second one in the first half. [Post edited 16 Dec 20:22]

Quality of football-wise, the period when Ray Wilkins was running the midfield with a young, raw Les up front was a delight. In terms of particular games, I'd put the 3-0 away to Everton right up there. Bradley Allen got a hat trick and we were simply untouchable that day

| The best football played by QPR. on 21:34 - Dec 16 with 1142 views | ted_hendrix | Home to the fakes evening game beat them to death 4-0 I think. At the time I was working on and off at the Madejski Stadium as my Company that I was working for had built their hotel extension and their new players entrance and marketing suite, I was sorting out their 'Issues' Their stadium Managers were good blokes from the old Elm Park days and I got to know them well, the morning after we beat them to death I was straight on them both, I needn't have bothered they were both genuinely complimentary about our players and how we played even using the phrase ''we couldn't live with you last night'' As for the game one of the goals we scored took about Twenty passes, we were bloody superb that night. Those games dont come along often, we were untouchable, absolutely untouchable. Drew, If you're reading this Mate wherever you are I hope your keeping well. Oh and the 8 odd minutes from the 82nd minute at Port fail [Post edited 16 Dec 21:36]

I always mention that aswell. Always expected us to bounce back. Worst, I have to say was Tranmere at home circa 2001, they'd just signed Jason Price and you just knew it was going to be a sh!tshow (I played a lot of Championship Manager at the time) We were p!ss poor all game, but very late on Andy Thompson scored to level.. Cue Stuart fi'in Barlow in what seemed to be an hour after the game. I'm not sure I've ever been so despondent after a game (that maybe factually incorrect)

| The best football played by QPR. on 01:39 - Dec 17 with 951 views | NW5Hoop | The Les/Ray/Two Andys on the wing team was fantastic. Realistically, the early 90s was the best team I can remember at Loftus Road – memories of the 70s are far too faint, and I wasn't really paying attention to football in my teens, because music took over. The team that's given me most pleasure, though, was the Warnock promotion team. First, we won something at the end. Second, I doubt I'll ever again see a footballer allowed to play like Adel did that season. | | | |

I was home for Xmas, and took my brother who doesn't watch football to watch that game. At full time he produced one of the all time under statements, "Your number seven is pretty good isn't he" One of those rare games where watching football is genuinely joyful

The 70s is before my time, the Les, Sinton et al team was what I grew up up on, but Adel, Faurlin et al were the team that really got under my skin in the way that can only happen when you're travelling to games a lot, drinking on trains etc., and celebrating in pubs afterwards. I think it was made more special by the years of shite beforehand. There were times were you had to pinch yourself, like, "I didn't think we were allowed nice things?!" The win away at Reading with ten men in particular was a moment where you just knew this was our year. Classic QPR for the whole Faurlin affair to hang over the end of the season of course.
| The best football played by QPR. on 09:04 - Dec 17 with 823 views | langtoft | Ignoring periods and generations I'm thinking about individual games and Im going controversial as it was a game under Mullery (who lets face it destroyed everything Venables achieved) and has to rely on Hughes, Hart and Critchety to avoid the worst ever QPR manager tag Forest home September 1984 just before the wheels came off the following week against Spurs. 3-0. One of the best home displays I've ever seen and here we are 40+ years on and this dinosaur remembers it . Bannister unplayable and remains one of my favourite ever games. Someone may post a link Away game equivalent? Newcastle 1993, 1-0. Best ever away performance but was actually the game (in hindsight) that started our demise as Keegan knew that Les was the answer for him. Unfortunately Hately was our response. | | | |

It was the blossoming of 4231 in a quarry of 442. But the opposition normally worked it out at half time.
| The best football played by QPR. on 09:53 - Dec 17 with 767 views | terryb | As I'm old, I will mention times from long ago, but I'll also name a couple from this century. A couple of defeats as well! Over a period, the 1973/74 season is the best that I've seen Rangers play. Yes, better than 75/76, but not as consistent. Individual matches:- 1969 home to Leeds (lost 1-0) 1969 away to Tottenham (lost 3-2) 1973 away to Wolves 1975 home to Liverpool 1976 away to Tottenham 1983 away to Ipswich 1983 away to Norwich (yes, we can play well & win there!) 2002 (?) away to Manchester United (seen thanks to ITV!) 2009(?) home to Preston ( the first of the three four goal matches under magilton) 2010 home to Swansea 2011 away to Cardiff 2024 home to West Brom 2024 home to Leeds I saw very few matches between 1983 & 2003 so I've only been able to include one from that period. | | | |
| The best football played by QPR. on 10:00 - Dec 17 with 770 views | Ghost_on_the_Westway | Another vote for the 4-1 thumping of Spuds. We were actually one down at HT but man, how we swamped them in the second half, so much so that Tel said some time afterwards that we were the best footballing side in the country. Super Ray’s diving header will always be one of my favourite goals, bless him. IIRC, it was the season after the Gurnham Singh game, too. We were sh-t hot in a 3-0 win at Goodison, Bradley Allen hatrick, Wilkins was unplayable, then Les decided he’d had enough and went on a brilliant run, only to thump it over the bar towards the end. I think we were better in that one than the 5-3 win there before it, but I was sat on my hands in both games as I was in the home stands with my Blue Nose mate. | |
