Field's surprise double caps fitting footballing tribute to Bowles – Report
at 04:10:58

On the flip side of all that was good, 19 corners should have produced more goal threat than they did. Smyth looked a little lightweight and easily muscled off the ball. His long throws are not threatening. Agree with Myke that Armstrong was worth a try, but Marti is manager of the month and I’m not.

Stan Bowles – 1948-2024

I was 13 to 20 years old during Bowles’ time at QPR. Hardly missed a home game. Sort of took it all for granted. Little did I know. Thank you.

Other thoughts.
1. The estimated annual disallowable costs of £4 million remains the elephant in the room;
2. Getting down from these last two years’ losses to around £5 million for ‘23/24 would represent a herculean achievement, all things considered;
3. Any Eze sell-on windfall could be an FFP game-changer moving forward, especially if it can be booked into ‘24/25 (not ‘23/24) and thereby contribute to two straight years of improved FFP numbers instead of just one.

Always crashing in the same car – Column

The damage inflicted by Beale continues to be felt long after his departure. The owners only have themselves to blame and no wonder they are funding these monstrous losses and cash shortfalls, because they are responsible for them.

“The club actively resisted interest in players when they were at the peak of their powers to chase an unlikely promotion in 21/22. Since then we have had them run contracts down (Bright, Manning, Willock), we've paid them up (Thomas, Bonne), we've offloaded them at cost (Dieng, Dickie) or watched them rot (Chair, Willock, Dozzell, Dykes, Dunne).”

As you say, criminal.

A big month - Preview

Just can’t see where the goals are coming from. Not enough creativity, delivery or penetration from midfield or wide, Dykes looking more and more like the second coming of Conor Washington, and Armstrong no longer the phenom-in-the-making we all hoped for when he broke through. Crunch time.

Too early to count any chickens, but the transformation is remarkable and the contrast with Ainsworth, sadly, is stark.

I’m sure the length of Cifuentes’ contract will protect him against relegation, and it should. I can easily envisage a scenario where relegation, a fresh start, blooding the kids, better football and a tilt at promotion would be a far more appealing and achievable prospect than treading water in the nether reaches of the Championship again, while trying to rebuild, at greater expense, with less scope for youth development, against much better teams.

QPR fail another exposure to Coventry’s sky-blue light – Report
at 04:22:57

Depressing. Despite his admirable and consistent endeavour, Chair has regressed creatively. And after him there’s basically nobody. Huff and puff gets you only so far (though without pace, that isn’t far at all). All that’s left is hope and hype, which Ainsworth eats for breakfast.

8/10 for the header; 11/10 for the save.

Colback bears gift to former club - Report

Premature in the extreme, but nevertheless true: if they can miraculously conjure up a win against lowly Swansea on Tuesday, while Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough draw their game the same evening, Rangers will be 7 points clear of the drop zone after only 7 games.
