 | News Comment | Stéphan left to pine for his Dream Team - Preview at 13:32:49
You make a valid point of 'we can't carry on like this can we?' Not only can we, but we have & will keep doing it, because Nourry can be as positive as he wants about assets, but as you've stated, knowing they get injured & then seeing them get injured isn't putting any of them in the shop window, but more worrying is that they aren't able to help us to draw or win games either. Right now, Charlton have gone 1-0 up against Norwich which takes them up 6 places to 10th, right behind us only on goal difference. We are losing ground on teams above us & teams below are creeping up so like last season, this year looks like the middle of the table will be very tight. Lose a couple of games & we could see the team 3 points or less behind us, all pass us to put us in 17th! As for Nourry bringing in Premier League ready players, i'm sure those teams will be quaking in their boots at the thought of Lamptey etc... laying on a treatment table lol As a realist, I know we aren't good enough to even make the play-offs, let alone get promoted, because teams that go up & stay up have great scouting networks, such as Brentford & even more so with Brighton. A small club from Div 2 at 1 point & yet, now they;re beating Man Utd, Arsenal etc... & playing great football while doing it. We could have been there already had people not let Warburton go, because his work at Brentford got taken over by Thomas Frank & we know what he took them on to, with Keith Andrews now in charge & doing it still. They look for players & bring them in knowing that bigger clubs will take them at some point, but they already have other players signed that then step in. I don't see Brentford missing Toney, Mbuema or Wissa etc... because Schade was already at the club when these 3 were in the starting 11. Same goes for Brighton, who consistently bring in lesser known players & sell them on for millions of profit. So the question is, how can these 2 smaller clubs consistently compete with the top teams in the PL, year after year & only get better as each season passes? Because of the scouting network. If you have scouts who know how to identify good players when young or, good players that are older but haven't actually shone yet, yes you will find the odd player who doesn't ever progress as much as you expected, but most of them will, which not only helps the team as a whole but also helps the bank balance to go out & buy more. So what do we do? We go to our owners other clubs in Australia etc... & expect players from much lower standards of leagues to come to us & become 100 million pound players when finishing 15th each season, it's a joke! Lamptey was with Chelsea from 2008 to 2020, then 5 years at Brighton, before moving to Fiorentina. According to Wikipedia, he played once for Chelsea in all those years but I'm not convinced that's correct. Then played 103 times for Brighton. With the PL being 38 games a season, he played just under 3 seasons of games in 5 seasons. Ending up at Fiorentina where he played just twice in a whole season. Anyone should be able to see that he has a high injury proneness & given that we already kn ow how bad JCS stats are over many seasons with us, how can people really rate Nourry when stating he's bring in PL ready players like Lamptey when, even if we get there, will Lamptey still be at our club or if he is, be on the pitch & not the treatment table? He's classed as PL ready because he's been in that league, but let's be honest, if he was that good when in there for 2 different teams, he would have been picked up by bigger clubs than Fiorentina, fact! Non league teams are raided in England every season & while not an everyday occurrence, Jamie Vardy showed that you never need to have been in the division first, before becoming one of the best strikers in the division. Leicester are in League 1 now, because they started bringing in players who weren't good enough & at a time when, Vardy was becoming past it at the top level. If you think about Eze & being in the shop window, clubs made contact, Palace then bought him, Man CIty was touted as going for him but then Arsenal took him. He's in the England squad now too, but we know from his own admission that while he believed in himself, many clubs didn't until he got to us. Did we sell him & go & find the next big star to sell on & keep things ticking over? No! We decide to purposely find injury one players & start bringing them in one after another. Celar, who only ever scored a decent amount of goals in the Swiss league because it's pretty poor standard & always sees lots of goals scored, was recruited to be a main striker when his stats confirm he's never done it outside of Switzerland & that continues to this date 24.10.26. He's gone back to Basel & has 5 goals in 8 games. yes you can take chances on players, but our scouts just seem to look at the wrong things. Celar scored a goal in virtually every other game for Lugano when doing nothing of note anywhere else, not even shining at the world cup for Slovenia, but we took a gamble because he was doing it at 1 club only & we know that turned out to be a bad decision. now we bring in the likes of Lamptey, because even though he won't be on the pitch much, he has played in the PL, a league we're not even in! This is a recipe for disaster because we k now they'll keep getting injured, which will hinder the team & our divisional standing, but they keep going because of 'hope' which doesn't help win games, let alone get you promoted :( As a realist, yes I'm happier to see us higher up the league instead of languishing near the bottom, but that's because we are not one of the 3-4 worst teams in the leagues yet. So as long as that continues we won't be relegated, but I don't know any team other than us, who expect promotion from players sitting in the treatment room. |

All the comments seem to be stating the game was good, but lets be real for a moment, instead of sentimental. For me, seeing JCS playing again is awesome & long may it continue, because when he is fit in every way, he is miles better than Edwards etc.. For the performance & result, I am worried though. We should all know that luck comes & goes throughout a season, but wow did we use a lot against Portsmouth, but also Millwall as they carved us open .....oh no wait the so called wonderkid dropped a cross lol We got lucky, because Dunne's header was going to the corner flag before getting a wicked deflection. At that point, the momentum is with us, but then penalties come & we make it way too easy, but good saves also didn't help us. With Portsmouth, each goal had awful contact that lifted the ball over the keeper, so huge luck each time again, but no real classy buildup & finish which we should be capable of right? Now, we play a promoted team who didn't spend like Birmingham or Wrexham last season, but we can't put the ball in the net as normal. Burrell comes on for Kone who was unlucky to have shots saved, but he never gets a clear chance created for him, why? Everyone seems to be thinking we have a much better team, but you create nothing for 1 striker, so that's pretty much like last season & before. Yes, better keepers help & I still don't get why Charles is still in goal ahead of Ward who kept 20 clean sheets last year, but I'm going to be controversial, as I have never regarded Chair & never will, but take him out of the Portsmouth game & again, we look lacklustre in front of goal. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see much improvement from last season & while we're unbeaten, it says more about our opponents so far, than what we've done. The next 5 games will show if we've learnt anything or not & Blackburn away next, is a big game given past results. |
