Giving with one hand, taking away with another – Preview

Great preview, like everyone else hugely disappointed with the way Furlong is being treated by the man/child, first of all why did this have to happen i got the impression he was a good coach and secondly if it really did have to happen because it doesn't fit within the new over hyped coaching structure then at least wait till the end of the season.

Poku - Missing on Saturday?

Well that depends how serious the reported offer was for Varane in the Summer, we currently have him in the shop window and have more than adequate replacements in Field and Hayden waiting in the wings.

Mmm I'm thinking more that we're developing players to sell for money, I see Varane the first one off, there was reportedly interest in him in the Summer and we have replacements in Field and Hayden.
It may seem controversial but Dembele had his best game for us on Saturday and if we can help him develop more then he may well be in demand and command a decent fee.

The Eze money has all but been spent, we have to become a club that develops and sells to give us FFP headroom, we have a squad now which on paper gives us room to sell a couple of players for decent money.

The squad seems set up now to develop and sell, we can offload two players in January or the Summer and we can slot other players into their position.

More importantly Burrell played in the previous game but was not in the squad last night, that suggests he's picked up an injury....

Expectations for the rest of the season
at 13:07 12 Nov 2025

Guess you need to ask CN for the definitive answer to that question, there was plenty in the press saying we had been made an offer and turned it down, some saying it was £3 million plus add-ons, any hard cash who knows most transfers seem to be done in staged payments.

The offer was either a Spanish or French club I can't remember which, lots of people saying that he would excel more on the Continent as he would get more time on the ball, totally agree that strikers are more marketable but Varane may be the first cab off the rank, he's the right age and it's a good time to sell in relation to his contract length.

Expectations for the rest of the season
at 11:41 12 Nov 2025

Bearing in mind we are a club who has to develop players and then sell on for profit to give us some headroom in the FFP calculations, the next player very likely to be sold is Varane, it's all very subjective and you won't agree.

Varanes transfer value will not either hold or increase on the bench and we have Field and Hayden who do exactly the same job, Fields versatility also makes him an important member of the squad.

Wow I think it's very sad this thread has dipped to this level, personally I'm disappointed that it's been politicised, but i guess I'm heavily influenced by the fact we lost family in the Second world war.

Southampton… How do we think we will line up?
at 09:13 5 Nov 2025

I take Numptys point but I'm with you all the way, everybody has said how well Chair has played since he came back and that result against Ipswich was nothing to do with Chair being in the team, a decent left back and a better goalkeeper and we could well have got a point from the game.

I also agree about Sam Field he's been written off far too quickly but I still think one of the main reasons Varane gets the nod over him is because we want to sell him and his market value decreases sitting on the bench.

Exactly this the definition of hypocrisy plus Numpty you got so upset with people disagreeing and down voting about a year ago approx you said you won't post any more, definition of a Numpty.

Just about calmed down now from Saturday, tend to avoid posting right after a defeat, we left on 87 minutes what exactly was the point in staying any longer, the main reason we stayed that long was the forlorn hope that we could get a goal back and salvage a bit of respectability to the scoreline, no chance.

Picking Esquerdinha for the game was bizarre, had JS at all watched Ipswich play, reviewed some of there games maybe and seen Walle Egeli, he's quick and skilful, leaving RND on the bench was asking for trouble, he's an experienced defender who may well have stopped the cross for the first.
Ipswich have a good team they have paid a lot of money and for some reason we didn't give them the respect they were due maybe because they sat in a false position below us in the league table.

We managed to get ourselves back in the game in the first half and we looked as if we might get a point by half time, it was interesting to see the Ipswich team come out early for a warm up at half time, that's all down to McKennas half time talk and probably saying let's get at them quickly at the start and it worked. It just feels we are naive at the moment in so many areas but for that said if we had a better left back and goalkeeper we would probably have got a point out of the game, Southampton on Wednesday the team need to forget the result and focus on another very difficult game.

My thoughts are with you Terry, having to get the 6pm train after that second half non performance, if Norrington Davies had started and we had a better keeper we probably would have got a point.

What should QPR do with Sam Field moving forward?
at 11:19 22 Oct 2025

Jeez I can't believe we're going down this road already, Field is a very valuable member of the squad, we have Field, Hayden and Varane who can play in the defensive midfield position, they are competing for one starting position.

Its the general consensus of opinion that we are now a club who has to develop and sell players for profit unless the very unlikely event happens we get promoted, even then you still need to attempt to make profits on players. There's a very good chance that the CEO has communicated this fact to the Manager, we have already had a bid for Varane which was rejected, this could be because if we play Varane regularly this season we will get an increased offer for Varane.

There's a good chance that if Varane plays well the club will get another offer for him either in January or the Summer next year, he's the right age to get a decent offer for a player and we have to accept he will be sold.

How you rate Field and Hayden is all personal opinion but we have players who can fill Varanes role, if Varane puts in similar performances to the Millwall game then that won't increase his value, I'm a fan of Field I know his limitations but as a defensive midfielder he does a good job.

Yeah I thought that was really weird looking at Ipswichs line up before the game, a big risk which didn't work, there's no way I would leave Philogene on the bench if he's fit but then his argument is that he has to manage the squad and players loading I guess.

Seems you've missed this one, he left Wednesday at the start of the season, they are now being managed by his assistant Henrik Pedersen.

Edit - Woops didn't read the post you were replying to properly, yup you have to give credit to Bannan for sticking around.

Madsen and Varane
at 09:36 19 Oct 2025

As we both know Gazza the message board is all about opinions and we disagree, Varane has been pushed to the front because of his age as we are a club now who has to develop and sell, we were offered a decent fee for Varane in the Summer and turned it down, that is possibly because if he plays regularly the CEO is hoping we will get more money for him.

Field and Hayden have hardly been selected to say they have been playing poorly, they are both as good as Varane in a defensive midfield role.

Thankfully it's not only me, Varane flatters to deceive and I keep thinking he's being selected in front of Field and Hayden to hopefully increase his transfer value. Well it's not working we should have taken the money in the Summer, both Field and Hayden can do a better job as a defensive midfield player.

Interesting it may possibly be that Varane is getting game time to increase his transfer value, he is the most marketable of the defensive midfielders and both Field and Hayden can do the same job, if our strategy is to develop and sell then that would provide the most money.

Exactly to say Frank fell on his feet by inheriting all Robins hard work is a massive understatement, whoever has been in charge of the squad building and transfer negotiations takes a lot of the credit.

They sold both Gyokeres and Hamer for somewhere between 30 to 40 million and that money has been invested wisely, they have three of the best strikers in the division, getting Rudoni from Huddersfield and then a no brainer getting Grimes from Swansea.

Frank talks a good game and he's done well since his arrival, getting them organised and I'm sure he's a good motivator but the majority of the ground work was already in place courtesy of Robins.

Bircham isn’t happy
at 05:55 24 Sep 2025

Spot on the last few years have been dire with very few highlights, we buy our season tickets turn up and support no matter what the weather in the hope of seeing a committed performance and a team that can entertain, maybe if Birch had been attending all the games he would have a better understanding.

We can see that we actually have a squad this season with some depth which breeds optimism, if the crowd want to stay and celebrate with the players that can only be a good thing and it develops a bond with the players, beats the hell out of trudging out of the ground wanting a beer to drown your sorrows.
