The player eligibility rules (from Wikipedia):
Minimum of four qualifying outfield players in their starting XI. A qualifying outfield player was one who met any of the following requirements:
- Any player who started the previous or following first-team fixture.
- Any player who is in the top 10 players at the club who has made the most starting appearances in league and domestic cup competitions this season.
- Any player with forty or more first-team starting appearances in their career, including International matches.
- Any player on loan from a Premier League club or any EFL Category One Academy club.
A club can play any eligible goalkeeper in the competition.
Any player out on a long loan term at a National League, National League North, or National League South team can play as long as the loaning team agree to allow the player to return for the match.
That should cover KVY, Digby, Ihionvien and Chiwome. |

The table has been updated after the Crewe draw.
3 players predicted a draw, each getting the score correct. 4 predicted Anderson to score first.
mfb_cufc, RSCOSWORTH, and Daniel were the top scorers this round, each collecting 5 points from a correct score and bonus.
BLACKCAT and Blue4U2 both added goalscorer points to strengthen their positions at the top of the table.

The stadium has been in decline for years, and I put that down to the owner rather than the council. There are countless examples of poor or non-existent maintenance.
The seats are a prime example. The executive seats in W4, W5 and W6 are falling apart, despite being among the most expensive in the ground. Those that have been replaced have simply been swapped with seats from other areas, leaving parts of the stadium devoid of seating.
When we played Wrexham a couple of seasons ago, we could have sold out the ground, but we couldn't because there weren't enough seats available. From a business perspective, it would have made sense to invest in replacement seats and recoup the cost immediately through a sell-out crowd. |

I'm with you RS. I think there's a three player threshold which has to be met for a game to be postponed, but only two of their players are regular starters. Given the depth to most squads nowadays, it should be harder to justify calling a game off at our level. |

Thread | Can The U's Derail Crewe's Unbeaten Start?

After back-to-back away defeats, the U's return home this weekend to take on Crewe Alexandra. The games at Bristol Rovers and Swindon were both true tales of two halves. At Bristol, we were rightly behind at the break but threw everything at the hosts in the second half and were unfortunate not to come away with at least a point. Last week at Swindon it was a different story, as we capitulated after the interval following a dominant first 45 minutes in which we should have been two or three goals to the good. The faithful will be hoping for a complete 90-minute performance this weekend.
Crewe travel to Colchester unbeaten in the league so far this season. They currently sit seventh in the table, two points above the U's, having followed up victories in their opening two matches (1-0 at Crawley and 1-0 at home to Northampton) with a run of three successive draws (0-0 at Port Vale, 2-2 at home to Walsall, and 1-1 at home to York). Only three goals conceded, but at the same time, only five scored. That suggests Crewe are a defensive side grinding out results, but far from it, they've had 75 shots in those games!
While we come into the game with nothing from our last two, I think it's worth pointing out that Bristol Rovers and Swindon occupy the top two places in the league at the moment. We were dominant and attacking in those games, so I think we have it in us to secure three points this weekend. The key question is whether we'll take the game to Crewe from the outset or adopt a more cautious approach.
Much of the team virtually picks itself. I'd expect the same starting XI as last week, although KVY's fitness could change things. If he's available, Rob Hunt is probably the man most at risk of dropping out.

Despite thinking we can win this one, I'm not quite confident enough to predict it. Either we'll take the lead and Crewe will come at us and get an equaliser, or the complete opposite. So it's a 1-1 draw from me. I'm going to say Sesay for the goal, he'll confidently dribble the ball, shake off a challenge or two, and then drill it in from outside the box.
The forecast for the game is sunny intervals with temperatures reaching 24°C. There's a very slim chance of rain showers.
Lastly, I'd like to focus on a single player for played for both – Chris Porter. Now retired after a 21-year career spanning 682 appearances and 196 goals, he's now working as a property manager. The U's and Crewe were the two clubs he made the most appearances for. He arrived at Colchester in January 2015 from Sheffield United and was with us for two-and-a-half seasons, scoring 30 goals in 95 appearances. He was also named captain. He joined Crewe Alexandra in the summer of 2017, after rejecting a contract offer from us. He went on to enjoy five seasons at Gresty Road, scoring 54 goals in 189 appearances. How I'd love us to have a player like him right now.

Stripes - Yes - We played them in the FA Cup in 1948 (and beat them 1-0) and adopted blue and white stripes after that.
Stadium - No - Their stadium is nothing like ours other than it had 4 sides and blue seats. Their stadium was built by Alfred McAlpine I think there was talk in the 1990s that Alfred McAlpine might build ours too. |

I've been to both Ashton Gate and the Memorial, but I haven't really spent any time in Bristol, so have zero to add. It's somewhere I'd like to properly visit, but any games we're due to play there don't fall kindly in the calendar. |
