It was pretty obvious we massively over-played him last season, especially when Burrell was out. There were games where he looked more gassed than Moses Itauma last week, literally stumbling about. And then, as has been said, he kept breaking down in pre-season.
I don't think he's a worldbeater but he's clearly struggling physically. And it is a problem – if he's this out of form, and we're not even letting Kolli near the bench, that's the 2 best finishers at the club taken out of the equation. [Post edited 6 Sep 13:11]

Not sure I can fathom knocking back an actual bid for Varane, if it's *anything* more than a lowball chancing of the arm. (Or a loan to theoretically buy.)
From pre-season he looks to have lost his place in Stephan's ideal first 11, and that was before we bought Kamara, with another CM supposedly on the way. He's not going to get any more valuable sitting on our bench for a year.
From our side, if we can afford to keep a limited but decent-ish player like him as a mere squad option, great. But I'm not sure where our new financial wallop is coming from if so... [Post edited 14 Aug 14:11]

Well, I'd be interested to know how you'd try to sell the club now as one where youth players have a realistic pathway to the first team. Morgan doesn't seem to be kicking on, and Kolli appears on his way out.
Would also be interesting to know what Paul Furlong made of it all, but then, he doesn't work for QPR anymore either. [Post edited 9 Aug 22:42]

As it stands, surely the best thing for the club would be Kolli staying? Take him out of the equation and we've currently got 2 available strikers, one of who spent a chunk of last season out injured, with a manager who likes 4-4-2 and literally nobody else to put on the bench.
The problem is also that a lot of the stuff about Kolli refusing to go out on loan, and his supposedly bad attitude in general, comes from people (or more accurately, online accounts) that you wouldn't necessarily trust if they told you the time. As we've seen with Obikwu, it doesn't take much for some pretty embarrassing ideas about players to start circulating.
And anyway, there are loans and loans. Chair, for instance, went to exactly the right kind of club at exactly the right time. But a lot are organised for the benefit of the clubs, with little or no thought for the player themselves. Outside QPR, look at Harvey Elliott last season - Liverpool send him out on loan, and he literally loses a year of what is a very short career.
I don't know. This level of constant tittle-tattle about a kid from west London who's been with the club since he was at primary school just feels a bit grim to me... [Post edited 9 Aug 13:38]

It's interesting. Stephan went on the record pretty much as soon as he came here saying he saw Chair playing centrally. The problem was, of course, he ended up barely playing at all - like a lot of things with us in recent times, injuries dictated what we were and weren't able to do.
The other thing now is that we've got so little cover up front, it might be worth keeping Burrell on the bench. Certainly on yesterday's performance, there's no future in shoehorning him in on the right wing, especially IF Poku can stay fit. But again, that brings us back to the QPR treatment room of it all... |

Unfortunately, the likelhihood is they've got to sell someone, and no-one's biting anyone's hand off for Varane, still less Saito etc.
It's an absolute no-evidence hunch, but you wonder if a decision has been made to keep hold of Burrell and Kone, and sacrifice Ronnie instead, given he'd be easier and cheaper to replace.
We'd all like Burnely to fk off in general, but the talk about him going seems to mostly be coming from our side... |

Find the conspiracy theory stuff around this dude really weird.
It's QPR. Going back decades, we have a gold standard track record of buying crocks who either break down within seconds of their debuts or never even get that far. (Only yesterday on here there was discussion of Kieron Dyer and Richard Ord.)
And our fitness record over the last couple of years is, of course, nothing short of remarkable. So why would this one be anything other than actual endless injuries, which may or may not have been brilliantly handled by our much talked-about medical team?
Is that really so far fetched that people have to start doing the nudge-nudge-whisper-whisper bit like a load of old nans? |
