Horses for courses I guess, the plan was to hit them on the break - that worked so well that by the time you'd look to make a change we were already 3-1 up and wanted a bit of Alfie Lloyd scampering.
Kone played 43 times last season, Burrell got flogged into the ground - a bonus we didn't need to use Rich today imo. |

In the best possible way, you've never seen two less Chair-like goals.
Was always a little bit frustrated seeing him out on the left, of course he's good out there for a ball into the back stick or the classic cut in and shoot from distance, but starting today as more of a second striker off Burrell he picks up two scrappy goals from about six yards out combined.
Strikes me now that we have three (four) wide men competing for the RW spot with Poku, Smyth (Vale?) and Dembele when he's back fit but only really Saito (and Chair) on the left. [Post edited 15 Aug 20:01]

Crazy half of football.
Fair play Stephan must have said something right in those two hydration breaks which might just have saved our bacon - was sure a second goal for them was inbound at 1-0.
There's gotta be a good argument for getting Varane on at some stage but could be more goals for us on the break as they look to force the issue. |

Incredible stuff.
Every year we turn up at Fratton Park as if we've got no idea what the game will be like. Give them encouragement from the first kick and now end up with a left hand side of Saito and Adamson after 15min.

Anyone else not able to list their season ticket for resale on Saturday? Usual part of the eticketing site says I have no tickets to manage and can't see any resale tickets listed on the seat map. Not had this issue before. |

As pointed out on the podcast it makes financial sense if you can get two dollops of cash for him, a loan fee of say £250k now given Norwich's perilous position and then maybe another £1m from them or another Championship club if he does well there and increases his value.
Or we keep him having helped to balance the books this year if someone like Varane goes and we have more cash to play with again. |

We were the only ones threatening in the first half when it looked like it would be good enough to get ahead and win. Of course I hoped and expected we could get three points with how limited the opposition were.
But we lost our way second half in crap conditions against a team fighting for their lives with a (very average admittedly) new manager - two teams on the pitch.
And still could've easily nicked it.
The first team we put out is all we have left. They're the ones who were fighting til the 120th minute at West Ham and were digging in for another away point a few days ago under the cosh at Stoke.
WHICH we also almost nicked in the last minute with Esquerdinha crossing for Adamson (I mean ffs does that not tell you everything?)
We're not meekly submitting to another 6 game losing streak, and we're only 3 points off the playoffs.
On Bennie, that's his second ever start at this level and it showed but he applied himself pretty well, brought some energy and showed some nice touches - again a couple of inches away from getting the winner.
