Kensal's post on page 4 here is right. On the basis that approx 10 or so teams are in the mix for playoffs, we've about 1 in 40 chance (2.5%). An outside chance but as good a chance as anyone in the mix at this point and enough to keep it interesting for now. The next couple of weeks should reduce the number of teams in the hunt so we'll have a better idea then https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/ [Post edited 28 Dec 5:06]

I've come round to thinking Ronnie would be an important signing, on the basis that without JCS we don't have anyone who can play a decisive ball out of defence, which is critical for us to play the type of football epitomised by the Leicester game. And as said above Cook continues to be a concern, so we're not well covered at the back currently |

100% I said on the Leicester match thread how amazing it was to see both flanks firing, it hasn't really happened before and makes such a difference. |

I actually think you might not understand how sport works |

Pompey away last season was the last game I attended in the mortal flesh, and we were light weight and second best everywhere. Hoping for a physical, high energy start today. If we match them for aggression we should have enough to come out on top, but we don't want to give the crowd anything to cheer about early on. Need some big tackles to set the tone. |

One more time for those at the back You are never going to get a granular explanation of tactics for past or present games from the manager, nor a warts and all exposé of how the manager feels about individual players (Wilder notwithstanding). But what you can take away is how the manager feels about performances, what he views are the improvements and works still in progress, how he views the task at hand, and even how he approaches his job and the dressing room. On that basis this interview is interesting because it reveals something about all of the above. |

Comment here from Nourry reads like assurance that we won't be resting players for this game? Interesting dilemma though if we have a good Xmas period and aiming for playoffs is at all plausible "We are aware that the club has made it out of the third round of the competition just three times in the last 12 years. Although it will be difficult against a Premier League opponent, Julien (Stéphan) and the team will give it everything on what will be a special occasion at a ground QPR has not played at before" |

I've had a very up and down relationship with Xmas over the years, so totally relate to anyone who finds it a difficult time of year. It can feel like you're at odds with the omnipresent ideal that is concocted, packaged, and forced on to you, aided and abetted by seemingly every single person around you who is buying into it. Tough stuff to manage. So solidarity to anyone in that position. Not sure what the solution is tbh. Perhaps finding some aspect of the thing that _does_ speak to you, and focusing on that. I know some people find comfort in doing charity work at this time of year, seems a good and worthwhile thing to do. And there's plenty of football to watch of course. For me, these days having two young girls who are giddy as kippers is good, because (like everything else) it becomes about them and making sure they have a good time, so all the other stuff takes a back seat. I hope everyone who is in to it has a brilliant Xmas, and everyone who isn't at least gets to watch QPR play some decent football x |

If we're going to mount a push for the playoffs we'll have to show we have the fitness and resolve to get results in these games. At least it's a proper test that'll clarify things by the time the last of the turkey has been eaten! |

Yeah this. When we're at our best (i.e. Saturday just gone) I'm not sure he's an asset, because it's super direct, rapid transition etc. but we're not always going to be in that situation and he's the best player we have at retaining possession. I was also struck by Madsen saying in the W12 interview that Chair is the hardest trainer at the club. I'm confident that if JS is here for a while and Chair stays fit that JS will find a way to work him into a system that gets the best out of him. In fact I think we've already seen a slightly different Chair this season, taking it outside and playing a quicker ball etc |

The W12 interview is definitely worth a listen. He's an unusual character. Comes across as unusually honest and unguarded, and also sensitive to criticism. I wonder if something went on here that is behind is apparent antipathy towards cifuentes?. Also comes across as a bit dour 😂 I like him, and like others you'd have to be incredibly misanthropic to not find joy in his redemption arc |

Fortunately this isn't how league tables work 😉. The improvement needed to make the playoffs is roughly one point more in the second half of the season than we got in the first half. |

Yeah I was actually trying to compare the two games in terms of how dominant we / Coventry were, but hard to be objective. Felt like if we hadn't had to stop for half time we could have scored as many as we want, can't remember seeing an opposition team look so clearly checked out and rattled. Probably needed to score early second half to keep the momentum going, although Kone had a good chance to score which could have opened the flood gates further. |

It's a shame, and didn't see it coming, probably because my main connection to QPR is this message board. I actually felt sorry for Marti watching it yesterday because that Leicester team is clearly full of absolute weapons, must be a difficult dressing room. And from Twitter last night their supporters clearly expect them to be going up again this season. |

I mean, the thought of competing in the premiership is ludicrous... But football is where I come to park the grounded objectivity portion of my brain, so I'm all for dreaming of an unlikely promotion push tbh . To go from Coventry to challenging for playoffs would be a hell of a story - and fairly on brand tbh |

I'll admit to looking at the table last night and thinking there's not really anyone outside the top two to be especially fearful of. And if you look at our games over Xmas we're playing three of the bottom four, and West Brom who are bottom half... In principle there's no reason not to be aiming for a big points haul that would take us into January well in the mix... |
