The kindest thing we can say about Tonda is that he left no stone unturned in pursuit of promotion. Without the fa cup distraction I think we would have gone up in second as the players understandably protected themselves for the semi at Wembley. But, maybe we would have been undone next year with a Spygate. Now the only thing to do is to say sorry, fix our governance issues and also play hard but clean football. We cannot afford to give more bait to our many haters and the clickbait media. So no more going down holding our face with both hands after a tap on the shoulder. Let's leave that to other teams. Above all lets remember who we are and where we play. We are the Saints and we march in at St. Mary's. Let's embrace the secular meaning of that word. We can then sing our anthem with more heart and soul. Come on you Saints, get down to work. Ps and keep Tonda but give him the chance to say 'mea culpa', someinternal penalties and a holiday. |

I think Tonda taught us three things. That the squad we had could be world beaters with more than a few tweaks to tactics and just a few tweaks to the composition of the squad. I like many thought we had the wrong mix of players and to many mediocre ones. Credit goes to Nick for having sussed out what Tonda also knew all along. How many times did Nick assert this and how many times did we all shoot him down. |

Taking inspiration from Ivan Golac... i just posted this on facebook - Today, I'm posting as a Saints fan looking forward to the big game at Wembley today and live on BBC1. So, who will win today? Sport or Mammon? Because this is much more than just Man City FC v Southampton FC. According to two leading BBC Sports pundits this game is already Game Over in City's favour. They have already pronounced that the final will be between Man City v Chelsea. No surprise that their prognostications don't mention the gross abuse of FFP rules by guess who? Both of these clubs. Oh, what a coincidence, but clearly nothing to do with what happens on the pitch. Anyone know when the tribunal decision on the 100+ charges against Man City will be published? How many years have we been waiting?! Anyone else notice that from time to time this story disappears from the web searchable archives of the national newspapers altogether? Presumably, after legal letters have been received by their editors. Meanwhile, a host of other clubs suffer points deductions for lesser 'crimes'. Presumably these other clubs don't have world class players in their... legal team. Maybe, just maybe despite all the odds and bucks against, the flickering flame of true sport, and indeed the truth, can win out today. For inspiration I'm going for Ivan Golac, an old boyhood hero. After being a marvellous full back for Saints in the late 70s he went on to win the Scottish Cup as the manager for Dundee United. Famously, he convinced his team they could beat an beatable Celtic. Golac made the players believe they were in the final to win it and not just to enjoy the occasion. I think Saints will go to Wembley believing they can win and that certainly is the only way it can happen. And they certainly pose a threat even when they aren't at their best. After all, we have the spirit of our 1976 FA Cup victory and that yellow shirt. Let's see what happens. Just a guess but maybe the reason we only play a back three is because out of all the centre backs we have in the squad there is not a pairing that, in a practice match, can defend as part of a back four against a second 11 made up of players in our squad. Which is why we do not play a back four even against the most out of form teams in our division. Compare this to Matt Targett who we did because he want good enough and has been odontoiatria in central defence in a back four for Boro even though he is a full back. And i think Taylor Bellis is a ball playing passing defender who cannot defend against any motivated, aggressive and al organised attack. |

I agree Sports Republic as owners probably are not the right fit for us. But, I think are problems go back to Kat making a killing on selling just 75% of the club for 20x what her father paid for the whole thing. We did not have a complete squad when she sold up and there has never been enough money in the kitty to compete for the best class of player available to the Premier League clubs. We are forever playing catch up and trying to outsmart every other club that has a scouting set up and management team at least as good as ours but probably better. Having said that with the exception of homegrown Robinson I think Scienza, Jander and even Jelert make all our other players look like cart horses although we can excuse our central defenders that characteristic. The only consolation is that the current first team has no history with the club so we are in a limbo where there isn't actually a recognisable Southampton team on the pitch. In fact they could indeed be a New Southampton side playing in the not so good MLS over there.

I would like to highlight how much Manning has come on as a player. This match was another step forward. Watching on a stream in the close up on his face as he waited to take that free kick he looked like he knew exactly what he wanted to do. And that free kick was perfect. It was Le Tiss class. He just clipped it with his instep. And his assist was perfect too. The way he took that angled pass on his chest and under pressure was really classy. Hats off to the guy. |

Given we are on our third manager, each with a different philosophy and the team continues to underperform to such an extent that even Leicester can score at home against us with ease, maybe it's time to just accept that the owners have completely screwed up their acquisitions. We have a bloated squad of mediocre players that don't fit together into a winning side which ever way you perm them. There's no threat upfront, no menace in any part of the team. Just a nice bunch of blokes in the wrong place at the time. Presumably in training the A team thrash the B team. And there will be other factors to consider when selecting a team and subs off the bench which we as fans will not be aware of. And please don't mention the guy on loan at Sheffield. In this team he was next to useless whenever there was a real contest. We need to stop believing the hype... |

Watching Armstrong try to attack Prem defences was like watching a child playing in a men's Sunday League. It was painful to watch. He could only redeem himself by chasing back to defend valiantly. But, this also meant when opponents attacked they could over load us because there was no one for them to mark. We did him a favour putting him out of his misery. |

I do wonder what happens in training between matches. And also what happens with scouting. I think Sports Republic are the problem as much as Martin. Maybe working at Staplewood is like being in an episode of The Office. Cornet and the Chelsea loan player are both carthorses without a first touch. The same has to be said for Diaz. He needs six yards to turn with the ball. One reason why the defence passed between themselves was because they could not see an outlet and knew that a clearance would just come straight back at them. The team had no shape in the first half. Poor Sugorama (sp?). He looked like the new Ivan Golac at the start of the season and now he has been reduced to doubting himself and his team mates. As Australians would say, we are a sh#tshow and Bournemouth outclass in every way, bar their stadium. Brighton are stellar by comparison.
