| Forum Reply | FA Cup Replays Scrapped at 22:23 18 Apr 2024
Give both cup competitions a Champions League place rather than to the 3rd/4th/5th place in Premier League - for either the winner or, if the winner qualifies through the league, the other finalist - and you'd see every club properly go for it. Every team entering the third round would know they're only a few favourable draws from reaching the final - Coventry have beat Oxford, Shef Wed, Maidstone & Wolves to get to the semi finals, under McClaren we'd have had games with Palace & Wolves if we'd managed to get past Watford. In the same way we talk about replays financially benefitting lower league clubs, the financial rewards of even just one season in the Champions League would have similar effects for any clubs below the top 5-6 in the Premier League. You want 95% of clubs to stop seeing the cups as an inconvenience you need to make it more rewarding (from the owners/clubs perspective rather than the fans) than dipping out to ensure your players are available for those money making friendlies. |

Andre Dozzell's social media accounts looked very different before & after he joined us - someone went through it stringently and scrubbed all references to him supporting Chelsea before he was announced. Might be that Andre or his agent just knew themselves that this was a smart thing to do PR wise themselves, but you'd also hope & expect that they were advised by the club to do so. It doesn't matter - but it does matter when things are going badly. Might be that's just the difference between a player seeing you as a step up rather than a step down - but given Begovic was happy to not only sign for us, but to accept the role of captain with presumably the additional benefits that brings, there's responsibilities too in how you represent this club & what you present. As above in isolation it doesn't matter but given the context of how he's performed, how the season has gone and the previous criticism of his Chelsea pod appearance putting it out there was always going to lead to a reaction, and from a QPR perspective there's no good one - some people are ambivalent, some people don't like it. Whether you personally care about it or not some people do - he isn't a thick bloke and for him to either not think about it or have thought about it and not care about the reaction doesn't sit well. |

Might be down to a lack of candidates wanting the role - first thing a DoF is going to want to know is what's already in the building and what resources have I got available to change that. Answer is not much and nothing! |

Always thought that 'easier side of the draw' argument from the last World Cup was based on historic performances of those teams & didn't end up being the case in reality- were Colombia an easier opponent than Japan? A solid, well drilled Sweden side that much worse than what was a pretty dire, uninspired Brazil side? None of Argentina, Uruguay or Portugal on that side of the draw looked particularly good either - certainly no more so than Spain, Russia, Croatia who we could have ended up with I'd say. England finished probably about where they should have done in that World Cup - not as good as France or Belgium, probably a little bit below a very talented Croatia team and better than the rest - and have improved again this summer to go beyond those three (as did Italy annoyingly!) to be one of the two best sides in the tournament (with not much at all between us & Italy) and Southgate deserves far more credit for making that progress IMO than he's given. |

The frontman went on to form a new band 'Lost Under Heaven' which seemed to go under the radar a little - similar sound to Wu Lyf but not as good. Top 10 for me... Exactly the sort of transfer Rangers/Forest fans warned us to look out for - random players turning up in positions already well filled for no apparent reason. Worrying. [Post edited 22 Jul 2019 16:59]

If that's the case & he wants to play this season he'll need to drop his wage demands etc until someone does come in for him. How many times in the recent past have players chosen to run down their contracts with us & walked away for nothing/next to nothing - Austin, Hoilett, Robinson, etc. The club can't afford it and needs to follow through with this threat to show to players/agents we no longer let that happen. Mass will need to decide - he can move elsewhere and play this season or stay here and not play for a year before moving as a free agent next summer (with all the ability to demand extra wages that brings). Unfortunately for Luongo he's the first in this position with us (but hopefully not the last!) |

It's not fair but it makes sense for the club to make clear it's not an option for him to see out his contract & then move on for free next summer. We need a transfer fee & he'll need to move on this summer to play. Again not fair - I rate Mass highly and think he's represented the club well throughout his time here - but necessary if we want to stop being seen as a soft touch in the transfer market. Worth bearing in mind that we won't know whether Ferdinand/Penrice have vetoed any other signings Warbuton has wanted Might be they haven't but might be they have and these are just the ones everyone at the club is happy with [Post edited 3 Jul 2019 12:45]

Is McClaren doing that much better than Holloway would have done this season? He certainly deserves credit for turning us round after that start to the season but we're still only 14th and likely to finish around there despite spending the majority of the budget on short term signings and jettisoning the young players Holloway was bringing through with some success last year. Unless we're aiming for promotion this year I don't understand why we've done that - is the plan to hope the loan/older players can raise Eze's game so we can sell him for big money next summer and use that to replace half the team? IMO we'd be slightly lower in the league this year if we'd kept Holloway but long term would be in a stronger position. |
